I don't mind the TMO gesture in that context, seems to me he was just desperate not to have his wunder-try denied because what he did looked close to impossible (and he probably wanted a good look at it himself). Completely different in my opinion to some snotty scrum-half waving at the ref stood next to a pile of bodies...
