Too many players stay at the same club when moving into coaching. I know knowledge of an institution is useful but I think getting out and about more useful, not saying everyone has to do as Rog and move country twice, but an awful lot of decent coaches do move country to country and test themselves to learn in different environments. Even Baxter could do with some new ideas if he wants to push for England

Defence always seemed a strange fit for Easter. In an age where line speed and energy are prerequisites of any defence his body of work as a player wouldn’t lend weight to his demands as a coach.

Disagree, Nick Easter adds a serious amount of weight to any endeavour.Mellsblue wrote:Defence always seemed a strange fit for Easter. In an age where line speed and energy are prerequisites of any defence his body of work as a player wouldn’t lend weight to his demands as a coach.

True that- in my own minor way, I should have gone and coached at a different club. How did linespeed in defence and ball out the back take over rugby quite so easily?

Because Saracens won the Premiership and European Cup.Digby wrote:How did linespeed in defence and ball out the back take over rugby quite so easily?
Actually, you can pretty much scratch that, line-speed has been all important since Wasps were winning stuff with their rush defence under Garland and Edwards

Thank god for England with Ben Youngs talking about getting better at kicking the ball away in the face of high linespeed.
