Yes, balance too. Though for Bath I do wonder if Garvey is what you'd want if you want a fast wide game supported by the 2-4-2 spread of forwards.Banquo wrote:takes all sorts I suppose. Faletau is maybe the best player, but Grant and increasingly Mercer will do a job there if needed. Whether Bath rate Garvey that much I don't know, different management now of course but this is the same genius club that picked Burgess ahead of Garvey and binned a better chance to win the AP

Me too, but you'd want a serious option in the backrow at the lineout, which at present would be Grant? It's not quite like Garvey is the diet version of Craig Quinnell at the lineout, but he's maybe not far off. If you had Tom Croft in the lineout then Garvey at lock makes a lot of sense, but Bath don't have that, no on really does.Banquo wrote:I like him as a lock.Digby wrote:Yes, balance too. Feel free to ignore that, it was only Raggs' idea. And he's an evil man who only a couple of days back all but suggested I go all Godfather this Christmas and put a dead horse's head in my daughter's bed as a Christmas present, the man has issues.Banquo wrote: True. I can only partially deny that, there was no mention of any bed.Digby wrote:Feel free to ignore that, it was only Raggs' idea. Ellis is a good call btw. Perhaps a solid choice for the 20 shirt.

I don't have too many references to go to when someone suggests giving a dead horse as a present. So as it was I went to the mattresses (ba dum tss)Raggs wrote:I can only partially deny that, there was no mention of any bed.Digby wrote:Feel free to ignore that, it was only Raggs' idea. Is Ben Nutley still alive? he might offer something different off the bench in the 20 shirt

I don't get to see him much but I understand Gaskell is still playing. Big Dave Seymour, Tom Youngs......

I don't think Tom Youngs would be anywhere near as budget as he should be

Re: Build a "budget" top 6 pack
Gaskell has been injured since the start of the season, and has just come back, had a great 1st game back against Leicester. Wasps have a number of at least solid AP players now, hence my thought of poaching 2 of the lowest rated.kk67 wrote:I don't get to see him much but I understand Gaskell is still playing. I reckon I could assemble a decent budget pack.

Jack Willis has looked excellent for Wasps. Can't imagine you'd need to rummage down the back of the couch for too long to afford him.

Willis has looked good, but if you were a freshly promoted side, who needed to be as sure of survival as possible, would you really go for a first season 21 year old flanker?

Also, would Wasps part with him?Raggs wrote:Willis has looked good, but if you were a freshly promoted side, who needed to be as sure of survival as possible, would you really go for a first season 21 year old flanker?

If someone offered silly money, they might not be willing to take the risk, but I don't think that any other club would reasonably value him higher, especially considering he helps boost Wasps ex-academy salary cap boost.Tom Moore wrote:Also, would Wasps part with him?Raggs wrote:Willis has looked good, but if you were a freshly promoted side, who needed to be as sure of survival as possible, would you really go for a first season 21 year old flanker?

Can't imagine Wasps would be particularly keen to relinquish one of their future stars?I R Geech wrote:Jack Willis has looked excellent for Wasps. Can't imagine you'd need to rummage down the back of the couch for too long to afford him.

The question did include however:I R Geech wrote:That wasn't the question though, not that that matters around here...
I'd definitely include Willis as not really proven. Certainly plenty of promise, but less than half a season, with mostly bench appearances, is not a sure thing to survive relegation and gel towards top 6.Trying to avoid young hopefuls who've not really proven themselves, and also people you think could stand up, but haven't actually played AP yet etc.

It depends what Wasps are doing signings wise.Puja wrote:Can't imagine Wasps would be particularly keen to relinquish one of their future stars?I R Geech wrote:Jack Willis has looked excellent for Wasps. Can't imagine you'd need to rummage down the back of the couch for too long to afford him.

Willis shouldn't leave yet as would be a perfect replacement for Haskell but if Wasps decide to sign someone to replace Hask then who knows.
What's the deal with Sam Jones aswell?
If you where after a young 7 Ludlam or Evans would be easier targets.
