Newcastle V Exeter Sun 3pm

Post by fivepointer »

Newcastle: Hammersley; Goneva, Harris, Matavesi, Sinoti; Flood, Young; Vickers, Cooper, Welsh, Green, Robinson, Welch (capt), Graham, Wilson.

Replacements: Lawson, Lockwood, Wilson, Olmstead, Latu, Takulua, Hodgson, Socino.

Exeter: Turner; Short, Whitten, Hill, Woodburn; Steenson, White; Hepburn, Yeandle (capt), Francis, Lees, Atkins, Ewers, Kvesic, Simmonds.

Replacements: Taione, Rimmer, Holmes, Salmon, Waldrom, Chudley, Slade, Dollman.

Tricky game for Exeter, who are without a few players (either injured or rested). Falcons strong at home and pretty settled.

Backrow battle v interesting; Sam Hill has been going well again.

Is that 9 changes for Exeter? Falcons should be in with a shout here which would be good for the league (other than it might encourage Exeter to revert to boldering through games)

Whatever happened to that Italian international centre on Exeter's books (I have a momentary block about his name). Big and fast, he had a great year for Italy two seasons ago, when he looked as good as any 13 in the 6N, then seemed to disappear from both the internalional and club scene. Has he moved from Exeter, or just can't get a game?

Campagnaro.

Good question. It seemed very odd he didn't become a star.

He was all but ruled out for the season with knee ligament damage, but there is talk he might be back a few months earlier than expected

Prior to that he was ruled out by Baxter not selecting him.

Odd one, he looks awesome for Italy. See Matera for Tigers

Matera was young and homesick in his first time out of hus country though. I don't blame him for being pallid and then wanting away. And Campagnaro's looked mustard on the occasions he has been fit to play for Exeter. Odd one.

Not when I've seen him, in fairness. All I was saying is that both have looked great signings..until..

You can only fit so many of Devoto, Hill, Slade, Whitten and Campagnaro into any match day 23.

I'm sure Bath will be delighted to take whoever is surplus to requirements there

Of those, only Campagnaro has looked a top quality international. Which is why its a tad odd.

Bath getting shot of Devoto was daft, though he has always promised more than delivered.

You may not be surprised to see me write this, but... it was MFord who should have been shot

Good win for Falcons, 28-20
Their in 6th place just 3 pts away from 3rd spot.
Thought this might prove a tough encounter for Exeter, who were denied a losing BP.
