Stern Vern FFS. You guys weren’t aware of it? It even had a brilliant twitter account to go with it.
And yes, he’s as dour as they come. But when he shed that single, manly tear at the end of his last Scotland game I thought my heart was going to explode.

If we had another black three to replace Monye, Armitage and Sackey they could be the Black Verns

My grandfather was a Vern. And he was one of those who helped make it such a cool name as a cricket loving, 7s loving (and 7s more than rugby), RAF types who was a big fan of beer, wine and whisky who liked to keep a pristine garden. Possibly by some modern standards his pipe smoking, mason belonging, willingness to consider voting NF owing to overt racism for any non Brits actually moving to Britain (he wasn't racist toward those staying in 'their countries' and was even a huge fan of the Windies cricket team), rabidly Anti-EU stance, and long standing belief to defeat the IRA we should nuke Ireland would count against him.Banquo wrote: how is Vern a cool name? I suspect there's no way he'd have been a fan of Eddie extending his contract, nor actually would he have approved of his signing in the first instance. I don't know actually there's a lot he'd have like about modern rugby, maybe he'd have liked the coach breakdown the Newcastle side enjoyed in Turkey, he loved anything to do with fixing vehicles and watches which obviously only enhances the lustre he added to Vern
