I'm not keen on it either and I'm hesitant to get involved in creating a rankings list, but there are some which are universally acknowledged as beyond the pale: n*gger, k*ke, p*ki, f*ggot, etc.
Puja
You could call me any of those and I really wouldn't care. Indeed I have a friend (I think I've mentioned this before) who does call me Paki, he's Indian and to him it's a term to apply to a great many things which may annoy him
In which case, you're probably not the person who should be the arbiter of what's offensive. The fact that none of those bother you suggest that you're either a) not a member of the groups for which those words might presage a group of people giving you a kicking or b) remarkably thick skinned (or both). Well done on whichever of those it is, but just because you wouldn't be offended doesn't mean that they're not offensive.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be considered offensive, really no one is in a position to tell anyone else what's offensive. So now we've started down this road it'll be a long line as to what should be covered
I think 3 weeks is about right. Bastareaud is not an English speaker and probably said the first insult that came to his mind. Had the insult been in French I would have expected a bigger punishement.
Btw I highly doubt Bastareaud hates gays.
I don't see him being the best person to make an example of. Not in this circumstance at least.

Marler was the one made an example of, this simply follows the same length of ban

Not a scoob. Slightly beside the point though, isn't it?
Puja
Wouldn’t it kind of undermine the idea that Basteraud just said the first random thing that came in to his head?
Not that I’m really buying in to that idea anyway. And I’m not sure it being a foreign language really makes a difference either.
3 weeks seems pretty light to me.
I highly doubt he hates gays. Especially having played at Stade Francais.
He gets his English vocab from movies, etc...First naughty word that came to mind... The less vocab you have, the more limited you are... It's not very hard to understand. He is not known for being especially eloquent in French...

Sorry to do this but what does the highlighted word mean? Can't figure it out...

A bad term for a Jewish person. Add an i instead of the asterisk.

I assume kike, which is to say jew
Don't think I've ever heard that before...
But I'm not really the insult type unless it's about your mum.

If you wish to insult my mother please do, she's really very annoying. Though she made something of a comeback over Christmas with an impassioned speech, rant almost, that it wasn't Beyonce who sang Single Ladies, why Mum even thought this was her bailiwick I've no idea, she's into classical music and the only pop she has I can think of is Elkie Brooks, and Abba. Still, it was quite some rant to behold and leaves me in unusual position of feeling kindly toward her, still, abuse away.

I had fantastic makeup sex with your Mum last night.
I say 'we had fantastic makeup sex' but actually she was out. I found her lipstick, stuck it up my arse and had a wank.

Crocked8 wrote:As far as I can make out Negri said “late in the fooking game”. Apparently the Treviso players were upset with him swinging arms into rucks etc. Now if there had been a racist comment wouldn’t the players around and even the ref(who was standing right next to them) have reacted to it?
In the video, you can hear Negri, with his thick accent say "Watch your swinging arm. Lazy fucking [hard to tell]." It's about 15 seconds into the video. The comments feature an argument about what exactly it is that Negri said, but you'd need a fair bit of hardware to clear up that bit of audio.
I'm a god
How can you kill a god?
Shame on you, sweet Nerevar
Unless Bastareaud is reacting to the comment that he's late in the game 'cause that's a known slur on his size I'd assume he has reacted to something racial in tone, there's a fair bit of chat which doesn't draw much in a response and then he flips. Which isn't to excuse anything that follows, though I know in my own time playing I've used the term 'queer' and 'fairy' normally in response to someone on my side missing a tackle I believe they've on some level bottled, or just because I was cross about something
Yup. After about 20 listens I'm hearing "late in the fucking game" as well. Whereas every time I see Basteraud speak it seems worse and worse, being less and less believable that he picked some random foreign phrase out of his head to insult him.
It's be a weird thing to respond to. No doubt this will all be cleared up once the Bastareaud judgement is made public, what with rugby administrators being famed for their honest and open approach to the disciplinary process
He's had to endure a lot of things during this tour, and to support on his shoulder a lot of things too, some that may not have been is doing...
He's said to be better than many think, and too much is being made of a moment of nerve from him, at the end of a tense game where obviously many nice things must have been said from both parts.
He is not homophobic. All in all u lot are making a mountain out of a mouse
