6 Nations 2018 - Round 1 Predictions

Post by Scrumhead »

What are your predictions for the results and talking points for round 1?

I’m going with:

Wales 23 - Scotland 15

Halfpenny’s boot to punish the Scottish scrum’s lack of established front rowers and Adams to score a debut try.

France 12 - Ireland 16

France to look surprisingly good with Jalibert stealing the show at 10. Ireland to grind it out with a single converted try and three penalties.

Italy 10 - England 25

England to labour to a turgid victory going in 7 - 10 at the break and eventually pulling clear with a couple more tries and penalties in the second half. Simmonds to bag a try.

That's closer. Wales Scotland won't have much in it.

Scotland, I suspect, will deserve to win but drop a haggis in the jaws of victory.

Simply to be contrarian (other than not backing an Italy win)

Wales 16 Scotland 29
France 21 Ireland 13
Italy 12 England 42

This isn’t required, as it is always assumed.

The odds on there being 3 away wins must be pretty long. Wales to win by 8, Ireland by 4 and England by 18.

Well, I've got some Rarebit mix melting I to some crumpets As I type, with plenty of Guinness stocked up.
I predict deliciousness for the afternoon, and ever decreasing amounts of sense - though starting at my baseline, it may be hard to tell.

Glorious to see the ref pinging both 9s for crooked feeds at the first scrum each, then reverting to anything goes.

Looking like we've fallen at the first hurdle.

yes, very funny. Gawd knows why the welsh keep kicking and keeping it infield, given the scots lineout is pish and they only look effective running it back.

Gatland’s teams always do it. They back their fitness over 80 if there’s lots of ball in play time.

Still not a member of the Finn Russell fan club. He’s too used to throwing the ball about and running from everywhere and nobody actually caring too much whether it costs his teams. Last year at Twickenham he threw a miss 3 on his own try line which Joseph was millimetres away from intercepting. He does stuff like that all the time. If Ford, Sexton, Biggar etc did that stuff they’d be crucified.

Even for Scotland this is a pretty brutal display of flopping after building up hope.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yes, I heard the commentators as well. It didn't make much sense esp in the first half against this scots team- they could have kept the ball to keep it in play, and as the lineouts from Scotland were so poor off the park was good....., but hey, a convincing win.

Thought Wales played very well. Their new players stood up and looked the part.

Scotland were inexplicably awful. Maybe the expectation got to them, but they badly miscued today.

yep, losing Faletau, Warburton, Davies, Biggar, Liam Williams and even North would severely dent most sides.

I had the sound off, so I assumed it was genuine question.
