I'm tempted to use mod-powers to delete the thread, just so you'll never finish one of these.

Minute 79

England win the lineout at the rear, and whatever is set it's brought to the floor, we then a variant on the zigzag, traditionally it goes forward but we're going to the left, to the right, to the left simply not to repeat the Curry tip on pass that saw us run out of forwards I presume

Minute 80

England go left on multiple phases and get pinged for playing the ball on he floor, SA set off on the run with a quick tap from Green 20 who hands it on to Green 7. Green 7 might have been taken down by Youngs but he decides to show the empty space next to Green 7 a lesson and tackles thin air, many French fullbacks doff their berets to Youngs in a nod of respect.

SA continue to try and run the ball until Robshaw gets at the halfback again, the ball is kicked a little on the floor before England drop on the loose ball, England recycle and Youngs boots the ball out to end the match

Does George dummy the throw, do SA lift even before the dummy? At this point I don't care it's taken minutes to get the ball back into play.

Faced with having the ball Youngs kicks it away, Green 14 can't take the catch, he is caught ever so slightly by Brown before landing, but it's minimal

England get the ball to Cips who spots space wide and deep and kicks through, it's the comedy moment of the game with Farrell refusing to chase and turning away in disgust, May scores in the corner
This sounds like it’s worth going back to look at.

It's not good actually

I assume he assumed the ball was going out and he's had a strop. The issue there is what if SA get there first and set off running it back, we'd have a main chaser right up the middle of the pitch having gone AWOL. Given workrate is one of the things which makes him stand out it's a bad decision from him

To be fair to him (hard as that is), it looks immediately as if it's a cock-up. The ball looks like it's been kicked too far and it's a combination of several very fortuitous bounces and May's freakish pace that result in it being a try rather than a 22 and a gilt-edged chance missed. Cipriani could have passed it immediately upon receiving it so that Farrell could put Slade in under the posts, or he could have passed it after the Bok player rushed up to cut off Farrell to put Slade in himself. The media and pundits have effervesced about "Typical Cipriani inspiration, moment of magic, etc, etc", but the truth is that he chose the wrong option, nearly ballsed it up, and got lucky.

Granted, there is no excuse for Farrell being a petulant tw*t and that is not the correct way for a captain to act and motivate his team, even if they have made a mistake, not least because Farrell makes 2-3 mistakes per game.

That's the thing, there isn't much coverage given in coaching manuals given to the idea if a player thinks a kick overhit players shouldn't bother chasing.
