No-one likes my Priestland at 13 idea then? Someone with distribution skills to really bring the back three into the game and allow you to vary the kicking game a bit.

That was quality flat ball. I bet Roberts could do that all day if he was allowed.
I think he has spent so long playing to type, I'm not sure that his instinct is to look for such opportunities. He had a good opportunity to go wide in yesterday's game and took contact instead.
Watch him playing for quins

He's not SBW but this he can't pass shit that keeps being written on here by mongoloids like Len is ridiculous.

They tried it (unsuccessfully) with Hook. Don't think either has enough pace to defend at 13.

Patchell could do it though I reckon.

The Welsh backline will never fire on all cylinders with a 2nd five that doesn't distribute the ball or look for gaps.

This is true, but what's frustrating is that Roberts has those skills too. Perhaps not to a world-beating level, but far more than he shows. No-one wants to see Roberts NEVER bash it up and use his brawn to make yards; we just wish he'd mix it up a bit.

Our creative influence is Biggar. That's it. Scott Williams offers some thing different, but is he going to start if that means a change in our tactics?

Also, what is the point of playing the same game plan but moving the focus a bit wider? It's still easy to read with one attacker at the time with the ball.

Variation in attack is so critical. The definition of insanity is repeating the same behaviours and expecting different outcomes.

He needs to turn into a playmaker like Nonu did. At the end of his career Nonu was so rounded I think he could have played flyhalf. He even developed a kicking game of sorts.

Doesn't help you have Gatland mind.

If we're not going to draw the man and create an overlap and continue running from deep at set defences it wouldn't matter if did have Nonu at 12.

There was a slo mo of Cowan as he looks up and realises that Roberts is bearing down on him and there is nothing he can do about it. Not quite on any clips I can find unfortunately.

its somewhat depressing that we look the least creative & dangerous out wide out of all the 6N teams, none of the lessons from the world cup seem to have been learnt & there has been no improvement in our attacking play

i suppose Gatland is not called cement-head for nothing but i'm not particularly looking forward to another 4yrs of sterile, boring, risk-free rugby

Thought Cotter (the commentator) had a pretty good game. I lol'd three times at least. "Samson Lee, fulfilling a life long ambition to play scum half." Was among the highlights.

Get the impression they would like to be less boring but not sure how to go about it.

That's why I was particularly pleased with the North try. That was something new. Of course we then blame the Scottish defence, so they can't win really. "Earn the right" and everyone calls you boring, break the line from 1st phase and it's "crap defence".

I just watched the game again... that try by Scotland at the death. Tackling at its very best by Wales.

Roberts is very important to Gatball, the Wales way play he's essential. The trouble is he takes the rest of the back line out the game.
Wales play an 11 man game in attack and it's very predictable for the opposition defence.

England master the 10 man game so Wales invent the 11 man game.

How's that for one-upmanship?

Well Cardiff invented the 8/7 game, so I don't see why not.

I don't think Anscombe will want to see that one again.

That was bloody typical for us. Luckily we had a big cushion, but we need to be steely at the end.

I'm not entirely convinced I want to see him in a welsh shirt again, just can't see what he's done to be there, to be honest.

It's a little mysterious. From the squad they really should be picking Nipper or Amos for the 23 shirt. And IMO Sam Davies would be a better choice too. Dan Evans would be a better choice, now that I think about it!

The Anscombe thing is perplexing. TBF that try is the first real mistake I can recall, but he's done very little of note for such a supposed "X-Factor" player. Dan Evans in particular must be wondering what he has to do (other than get a few starts at 10, I suppose).

For Cardiff at fly half, he has looked like a mature and potentially high quality fly half. At least that was my initial impression. I think there are other players who have a better claim to a bench spot.
