"Rapid Rugby" sanctioned by the IRB

Rapid Rugby, the brainchild of Australian billionaire Andrew Forrest, will include the Perth-based Western Force as well as teams from Samoa, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Fiji, plus another backed by a private consortium based in a country yet to be revealed.

The teams would contest 56 games over 14 rounds, prior to four finals over three weeks, with the winners taking a $1 million first prize.

...

The league was expected to introduce some innovative changes to their gameplay, reducing games to 70 minutes and include rolling substitutions. Teams scoring a PowerTry, which starts from inside their own 22, would get nine points, without a conversion.
On the one hand, great to see investment in Asian and PI rugby - really interested to see how it develops. On the other hand, the competition name is almost as stupid as the proposed rule changes. If you don't like rugby, why are you bothering to arrange a rugby competition?

It does strike me that it would be a lot easier if Forrest just bought an NRL team and moved it to Perth.

Rolling subs? From a bench of how many?

There could be a lot of very powerful and/or tall men crossing over the touchline before and after every set piece.

Is this another attempt to revive the ARU corpse. Just leave them to it and send their money to the tier 2/3 unions in the Americas, Africans and Europe.
You can mess around with the game as much as you like, the typical beer soaked simpleton in Oz still won’t watch it over Aussie rules and NRL.
