The big scores (for backs) are for clean breaks, tries and last pass assists, beating defenders (with running, not passes), and doing lots of tackles. Each kick is only +1, so it's entirely possible to get very few points by playing well, but putting other people through gaps rather than running yourself.
Yep. Exactly this. This is also why a lot of centres score fairly poorly.
I remember picking Joe Simmonds to start against Falcons earlier this season and seeing him score about 2 points because he played purely as a pivot and they kicked every penalty to the corners.

Indeed. It's why Ford is so much better, because he seems to get about 22 try assists...
Smith doesn't play a great game for Fantasy Rugby.
It's a decent week so far for me. Almost 400 points with Launch and WLR to come today, plus Waller. Small, small chance of 500...More like 450, which is still a good score.

Smith did last season though - was making breaks all over the place and was part of my side. This year I have McGinty (injured forever) and Steenson (utter crap) and am currently being minced in the cup by someone who had Ford as his captain. Need Ribbans and Reinach to have a big game today.

Reinach having a giant game is the only thing that will stop me winning my cup match.
I pick Faf at 9 because he consistently gets 25-35 points. I forgot to switch captain this week, though, was going to give it to Dombrandt, which would have got me an extra 20 points...
Oh well.
Really looking forward to Launch being back. He's one of the best scoring locks around because of his tackling plus carrying.
I have Reinach as my captain today so inevitably, this will be the week he has a shocker.
In the Cup, I was drawn against a guy who is ahead of me but as it stands, I’m in front by a point! We both have Reinach as captain and he has Ribbans starting while I have Cruse starting with Rowlands on the bench.
It will likely go down to the wire as Ribbans has it in him to produce a 40+ performance which may be better than my total from Cruse and 50% of Rowlands’ performances. Cruse averages c18 points when he starts and Rowlands averages c26, so if they score as they usually do, I’d be expecting to get roughly 31 points. Ribbans averages 24, so it will be very close.
I’m currently trailing my opponent by 30 points and he has only Launchbury playing today while I have Reinach as my captain, Ribband and Young so it’s possible I could overhaul him and take the win.
Looks like I am out of the cup. It didn’t help having Thorley and Piatau drop out before the games. That would have given me the 20 or so points I needed.

I'm not sure I even qualified for the cup!
I can beat you on that. Picked Dombrandt initially and changed my mind to Ribbans on Friday evening. Dombrandt scored 42. Ribbans scored 6 - that's with the captaincy bonus!
Wouldn't have been enough to keep me in the cup though. Disasterous week. Was 45 points adrift going into today with 3 players and my captain to play, compared to my oppo having 2. Unfortunately mine were Ribbans, Collins and Reinach, who scored a combined 41 points between them and all came off before 60 minutes.
Managed to win in the cup and jump a place in the overall league.
I’m still about 400 points behind the leader though and for all the analysis I did and the extra time spent on trying to improve on last season, the actual result is only about 10pts per week!

Incremental gains. RR’s answer to Woodward and Brailsford.
Won my cup game Good performances from Launch and WLR gave me the win after my picking of Holmes over Grobler left me adrift of my first 500.
But overall pleased, still 10th but very very close to 9th and 8th now. Plus I've managed to drop a couple of players over the last few weeks, so my squad is looking better for the run in. Plus I'll only really be losing 4 players to the 6N, so we should be ok...

Haha - I guess I should look at it that way. So far, I’m averaging 456 points per week.
An extra 3 points per player in my starting XV per week would get me to the magic number of 500.
To be honest, the single biggest difference-maker is a good choice of captain which can sometimes break 100 points for one player. I’ve only really nailed that choice a few times.
Anyone entering the 6N version of the game? Is there enough interest to set up a RR minileague?
You're only allowed 5 players from each nation, minimum squad size of 28. With the fluctuations in French and Italian teams I'm finding it quite tricky to pick a squad.
I’ll definitely be playing. I’m just leaving it until the last minute because it’s hard to know who’s going to be playing outside of the obvious choices ATM.
Real struggle with the French...mainly because their selection is so all over the place I have no idea who to pick. Plus props is hard because the French props are a bit...well...
Picked 16 players so far, including no hookers and only 1 lock.
4 English
3 Irish
3 Welsh
3 Scottish
2 Italian.
Will be trying to decide which Englishman to complete the squad, which 2 Irishmen, depending on needs elsewhere, which 2 Welshmen, depending on needs elsewhere, and which 2 Scots depending on needs elsewhere. Still leaves me with needing another 6 players from France and Italy. I think I know some of what I'd pick, but not much.

I'll be in, although likely to be terrible! Definitely worth setting up a mini-league, even if it's only for 5 of us.

Agreed, even if only for me to say I finished in the top ten.
