Wasps-Daly

Post by Spiffy »

Just read in the Guardian that Daly has a contractual clause with Wasps that will enable him to leave at the end of the season if the club does not find a new training ground. This has to be the most daft/petty reason ever touted. Why would any club agree to something like that? Too far from his house or what?

I understand that the players were promised new training facilities when they moved to Coventry. They are still waiting for it to happen.
I very much doubt that in itself would be a reason for leaving, but it might be seen by some players that things are not all that they might be at the club.

His girlfriend apparently wants to go back to London. In addition he seems to have a business there, or may be starting one shortly if I've got things right.

I believe he and Jamie George are starting something together. George is also his best mate. From what I hear, those who have been with the club since before the move are very pissed off that promises made to persuade them to uproot to the midlands have not been fulfilled.

Daly was the only non Saracen to be at Owen farrell’s wedding or stag do apparently.

Pretty clear he’s using whatever means to manoeuvre a way out of Wasps. Can’t blame him, not because of anything going Ona wasps, but if you’ve got the chance to move to the best team in the country and go back to your home town...

Not really daft TBH.

The current wasps training ground is pretty, average at best.
Wasps made promises that it was only temp and the new training ground would be sorted soon enough, so not surprised some players have hold them to it in their contracts.

I doubt it is the main reason for moving, but Sarries are the team to play for in England currently.

No Ford? I can’t remember if it was on here that I heard he used to get Ford to do all his maths homework at school so he’d be able to go to rugby training.

But if Daly is at Sarries, there will be...

Mako
Billy
George
Koch
Itoje
Kruis
Skelton
Farrell
Barritt
Maitland
Williams
Goode
Daly
Burger
Bosch
Figallo
...

They cannot be under the cap.

Lewington wouldn't have been cheap either. Even the likes of Wray, Tomkins, wiggles, Spencer etc will not be cheap, as they'll have been courted by other sides.

It is tough to see how they're under the cap even with England, academy and "it's sarries people will go there for less".

They do go for less though.
Sounded like Lewington didn't cost them much.
Singleton for Tolofua will be a big saving for them.
Day will be off and will most likely be replace by Kpoku another saving.

Burger + Bosch retiring.

Are Itoje and Farrell the players outside the cap?

OK, take them away, it's still 4million on 1/3rd of the squad. And that's not counting Wiggle, Spencer, Isiekwe, Wray, Clark, Lewington, Tompkins, Taylor, Loz... None of whom are going to be cheap.

Not arguing it all adds up. Just saying it’s not as bad as you portray. Sarries will also have a lot of players on less than you think purely because they can offer almost guaranteed silverware.

I reckon you could make similar lists in terms of profile and pay packet at a few Prem clubs, just the Sarries boys actually perform at a level that matches their salaries.

Isiekwe is still in their senior academy squad and his senior academy contract doesn't run out till end of next season, so i would imagine he is pretty cheap.

I'd've thought Lewington would be a fairly good bargain as they were offering him a platform to audition for an England place. Williams would've been dear though.

Don't forget they will get the maximum cap dispensation for homegrown academy players as well with the likes of Itoje, Kruis, George and Wray.

I think most Wasps fans seem resigned to Daly leaving. He's been dreadful for us most of the season, trying too hard to force it and letting his frustrations boil over. He's a quality player, but in all honesty he needs to pull his finger out and start showing it or he'll lose his England spot given Brown's recall and Nowell's good form.

It's a bit of a weird signing for Sarries though. He's not a better winger than Williams or Maitland (or maybe even Lewington), not a better full back than Goode.

I’d say he’s as good as Williams and better than the other two.

Be good if he is better than Maitland, as I think Maitland is class.

100%. Better wing than all 3 imo.

Mentally he looks shot at the moment though. Hopefully England camp, getting away from Wasps and getting back on that left wing sorts him out.

I'd say he's easily a better winger than Maitland or Lewington and probably better than Williams. If you think about how he was playing before he was put to full-back, he was in the World XVs of several sensible people.

He's not a good international 15, but provides cover there and centre as well. He'd be an asset to just about any side in the Premiership, as long as they were signing him as a winger and not a full-back.

Pretty clear he’s using whatever means to manoeuvre a way out of Wasps. Can’t blame him, not because of anything going Ona wasps, but if you’ve got the chance to move to the best team in the country and go back to your home town...
