Almost perfect.....

To be fair i thought Farrell was very good. He led the side well and contributed fully to the win, but some of the comments around him are just ludicrous.
Mixed bag for me; his discipline was miles better, and it was a genuinely superb pass for May's try. Both he and Youngs were absolutely clear on the game plan, and generally executed ok, bar some average kicks from Youngs amongst the excellent ones, and Faz missing kicks from the deck and a dreadful punt from turnover ball. But when it came to seeing opportunities that weren't pre programmed, ie from said turnover ball, both were lacking. If I were to be picky, Faz was static too often when passing, or simply got his depth wrong.

That is being picky tho.

Because he played very well; big shift in defence and at the breakdown. Jones could have lived to regret taking him off at 50 minutes, given what happened immediately to Itoje.....who is out for 8 weeks apparently, and we will miss him.

Anyone else notice it?
It was Cian Healey and I saw no major problem with it. Wasn't to his face, was more on his chest. As Lawes tried to get away, Healy moves his arm. When Lawes gives up and just waits until the ruck is over, Healy's arm is still.

It's against the rules - he's holding him in the ruck - but it's not exactly worth any extra sanction.

A good result coming from winning contact, the ref was an influence, and on another day an Ireland team with Henderson and SOB might do rather better in defence

I still see very little from Ireland in attack, and they've got enough players with ability to push that side of their game

Frankly, I thought the more obvious missed foul play was Manu shoulder-charging Stockdale's exposed ribs in a ruck, right in front of the touch judge. No idea how he got away with that and we were lucky as it was a stone-cold yellow at a crucial time in the first half.

I spotted that too, very lucky. That said, its the sort of thing that happens immediately at almost any breakdown but doesnt get noticed in the scatter ruck mayhem.

Yep. Looked like Healy with the arm/elbow on his chest/throat to me. And he looked held up for his try when I first saw it.

Ah well.

It was also hilarious to see O’Mahoney the ultimate niggly bastards number 6 totally lose his cool and his impact on the game. What a tosser he is.

He really didn't like it did he. Cracking player, but a proper whinger. Shame, poor lamb. :D

There was a period of about 3 tackle in 5 where he put the shoulder in without wrapping, mainly as second man into the tackle. Other than that he didn’t give the ref anything to think about.

He got the big one late on so that’s all you need to hear about.

I shouldn’t be surprised anymore at this stuff not getting called out, but his reaction to winning any turnovers by frantically blasting the ball away in absolutely any direction was amazing to me. I think Youngs did some of this too.

We seem genuinely terrified of counter attacking or unscripted play.

perzackly, which is mad when you have that back three and Slade to help link it up.

I think the best bit about that is that Ben Curry's seen and joined in the mockery of it.

This appears to be a less whiny article: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/rugby/news/a ... d=12200420

Slight hyperbole from NZ after the horrible sin of losing two games in 2018. Not sure why they're even bothering to turn up to Japan.

They've sort of got a point, there was a lot of kicking, but it's not like NZ don't kick a lot when they deem it necessary. If they want to support a side who try to run for the sake of it they'll need to show much more interest in the Aussies doing well
