S'not on

Post by Spiffy »

Cheetas player Lee has copped a 13 week ban for "clearing the contents of his nose" onto a Connacht player's face. First time I've seen a ban of this type. Definitely a nasty thing to do but 13 weeks is a hell of penalty.

Hard to weigh that one up. It’s obviously a disgusting way to behave, and there’s no way you can argue it being a typical ‘heat of battle’ sort of cheap shot, but compared to any number of stamps, punches and dangerous tackles/clearances?

Hmm.

To flip flop on that even further. I’m not sure I’d judge anyone too harshly for responding with the kind of violence I mentioned there.

I think if it's deliberate, then it's worth every day of it.

Bloody hell, that disgusting. What would be the sanction for spitting. I imagine something similar to this ban?

This resonates of Voller/Rijkaard in '90..gobbing at an opponent usually brings a violent reaction.
Is nasal phlegm as bad as gobby oral saliva/phlegm ?
Microbiologically probably not, but directing any bodily fluid at an opponent must fall firmly in the unsporting behaviour/ungentlemanly conduct realm. In the days of the all-seeing magnifying lens and micro-analysis, the mind boggles.
