Composite 6N team
Which England players are actually under pressure if naming a team of the tournament (so far)?
Youngs might be,but then who else, Stockdale is probably challenging for a shirt, so too Liam Williams, are the rest shoe ins at this early stage?
I'm struggling to think of another 6N, and admittedly it's early doors, where so many players in a combined 6N side would come from one country, we're not even getting the likes of Guirado make their normal claim despite their own team's form

Re: Composite 6N team
You'd definitely have (on this 6N alone) Laidlaw, Stockdale, and Williams, with some arguments to be made over the centres. The pack would definitely be all English though.

I'm with Stom on the idea of selecting Laidlaw, I'd have to have another look at the Wales games as they might have a challenger to Youngs, but no challenge is coming from France, Ireland or Scotland at 9

Assuming France pick him - no given - I have high hopes for Dupont.

Well who the hell else is there? You can't really have Murray after the dog's dinner he made of the England game, Wales haven't played the same one twice, Parra is out of the question, and Youngs can best be described as "Quite good considering it's Ben Youngs."Stom wrote:Laidlaw?Puja wrote:You'd definitely have (on this 6N alone) Laidlaw, Stockdale, and Williams, with some arguments to be made over the centres. Laidlaw's been efficient, got the ball out pretty well, and sadly that's all that's needed to get into team of the tournament at 9 so far.

I'd have Youngs ahead of Laidlaw. Who really is a terrible SH.Puja wrote:Well who the hell else is there? Re: Composite 6N team
All I can say is I'd desperately like both countries to pick someone else at 9. Please don't make me choose between them. They've both been quite good for the standard that they've set, which compared to the guys Stom mentioned is not that impressive at all.
I'm assuming it's Nowell/Ashton who lose out to Stockdale. But Daly? He's done some very neat stuff, but still seems to be struggling with a couple of the core fullback bits.
It's hard to weight up how much of this dominance is the team as a whole or that our backrow is just gelling so nicely together. I was gutted to lose Underhill, thought Curry did well enough in SA but was teetering on the edge of getting blown away, but now it's going to be a real fight for that 7 shirt which is great.
I'd take Russell over Farrell. Sorry.

Youngs’ the best 9 by a distance. Stockdale has been a disappointment so far, I thought he was all over the place against England.

Scrum half debate is bald men fighting over a comb; Laidlaw is the antithesis of the 9 that Scotland need, given the rest of their team and how they'd like to play, imo. Youngs has been the most effective, but we cannot expand our horizons whilst he is in place with his current speed of thought and deed. Murray is the best in the 6N, but not on top form.

As a standing preference or simply based on this tournament? Simply on the games this year it doesn't remotely look a close call imoMikey Brown wrote:

9 has had the weakest set of performances, but Youngs is leading the field even if it's the equivalent of a five minute mileBanquo wrote:Scrum half debate is bald men fighting over a comb; Laidlaw is the antithesis of the 9 that Scotland need, given the rest of their team and how they'd like to play, imo. Penaud has been quality on the wing for France

I'll be honest, I'm not really keen on many of Scotland's backs. I don't think much of your centres either, they're both wet fish in defence.

You might want to check out the Italian halfback currently tearing it up against Ireland for the 9 berth...

Good half in attack from Italy.
