Irish mind games ahead of RWC 2019
The biggest story in NZ over the past 2 days is of the trail of mayhem left by a family of Irish travellers. The intial story was a video of a small boy, strutting up to a lady and threatening to knock her brains out in a nearly unintelligable Irish dialect, after she asked them to tidy up the rubbish they'd left after a boozy picnic.
Turns out they've commited crimes against a host of social niceties, including bad parking, talking loudly in an off-licence, walking through the drive-through in a Hamilton Burger King, and walking around excessively on their plane flight into NZ. Plus a series of eat-and-run incidents in restaurants.
I'm not going to lie, Ireland, we're rattled.

Re: Irish mind games ahead of RWC 2019
First things first, ye need to watch the use of the word "Travelers!"
There are Irish people who may be traveling and then there are Traveling People who may be Irish. The former may be just as rowdy as the latter, but the latter are a designated racial minority who have rights under international law to abuse anyone they like, rob anything they set their minds to and leave their shyte lying around for everyone else to enjoy.
Now, the issue of etiquette needs to be examined. It would seem to me that this family have committed a number of minor culinary faux pas, but I think that this needs to be kept in a very clear perspective; ye don't have to delve too far back into the mists of history to find ye south sea types tucking into visitors to the islands. Against this, knocking off a few hundred-weight of fat-burgers and chips seems small-fry and looking at the 'dad' its fair to say he's a walking advert for healthy eating (A bit like putting a picture of a cancerous lung on a cigarette packet).
I do agree that some of the language is unintelligible; I've watched the video of the boy in the big hat three times and I still haven't a fecking clue what the weather is doing in Aukland over the next week.

Or as Sir Terrance Wogan of Limerick would refer to her, my Auto-correct.

I thing "Travellers" was an unintentional slip by the NZ Harold. I'd like to think not, but editorial standards are not high in that rag.
Why not just bus them out to West Auckland and give them a couple of caravans to inbreed in for a couple of weeks. A real home away from home.

Anything but deportation is a bonus. We have a lot on our plate at the moment and frankly just being shot of them for a couple of weeks makes this place seems decidedly more pleasant.

They are probably Travellers rather than merely travellers. And possibly from Liverpool, rather than Ireland. Apologies, gentle Irish folk, for being conflated with some rogue Scouse gypsies. Sadly, they may not get to see their beloved hobbits as they've been slapped with a deportation notice.

It's a shame to see the story come to an end. It's gripped the nation.

Now, now. These folk have been trespassed from Hamilton. They're not West Auckland material.morepork wrote:I thing "Travellers" was an unintentional slip by the NZ Harold. I'd like to think not, but editorial standards are not high in that rag.

The father’s accent is definitely not Scouse. There’s shades of Cork and Dublin in there, but I’d say he’s spent some time in England. The boy in the big hat is pure Turnipstani - it pains me to say.Spy wrote:Arnd possibly from Liverpool, rather than Ireland. From now on, in NZ, fat drunken antisocial people will henceforth be known as "Irish travelers".
It will take some heat off the local fat drunken antisocial people.

As long as the condition that all Irish theme pubs must show rugby, regardless of what the locals think/want, then I'm a huge fan of this contribution to world kultureBBD wrote:Our gift to the world - that and Irish theme pubs

In completely unrelated news, a couple of “British Tourists” have been given interim name suppression here after being charged with fraud related to a roof-painting scam.

Quite. I don't think the globe has been so convincingly lulled since Nev came back from Munich waving his piece of paper.

The rest of our group must be dribbling into their wellies at the prospect of these Scottish and Irish juggernaughts rolling over them in the Autumn. Poor, hairy wee Japanese bastards!
