Re: Leicester vs Northampton
I'm afraid I struggled to watch it, tbh...The bits I saw were just punctuated with really stupid individual errors from Tigers. Absolutely full of them, from picking the wrong runners to that idiotic scrum penalty to nearly everything Mike Williams did.
Hutchinson looks good, Gibson and Brussow worked well together. Difference between a club with a coaching team singing off the same sheet and one not quite there (yet?)

Tigers have got away with a few trademark crooked Youngs lineouts

Both Francis and T Harrison are much maligned, but both really good players. Both written off at international level far too quickly.Adam_P wrote:I agree, and I also think England would probably be improved with having Francis at 12 between Ford and Manu

Yep, cant understand the thoughts widely shared about Harrison - I don't know of many backrowers in the Premiership that I'd be happy to swap him for to be honestTimbo wrote:Both Francis and T Harrison are much maligned, but both really good players. Harrison suffers from what a couple backrows in a similar style do.
Too small for an international 8 and 6, not quite good enough over the ball for a international 7.

He’s no smaller (or less physical imo) than any of the current Welsh backrow. He’d need some time in an international shirt to adjust to things though.Tigersman wrote:Harrison suffers from what a couple backrows in a similar style do.

This must be the worst pack Leicester have ever had.

Well I think he is less physical especially at International and his performances for England kind of showed it.Timbo wrote:He’s no smaller (or less physical imo) than any of the current Welsh backrow. I think he was picked too early, before he was really ready. He’d had just over half a season of top level rugby when he was picked for the Oz tour.Tigersman wrote:Well I think he is less physical especially at International and his performances for England kind of showed it.Timbo wrote:He’s no smaller (or less physical imo) than any of the current Welsh backrow. I watched Moriarty play in this league for a number of years and he was never as good a club player as Harrison has been over the last 18 months.

Moriarty was a International for 3 years whilst in the prem league and never looked out of depth at international rugby either despite being 2 years younger than Harrison.

I know the tigers have a load of really mediocre players but even the good ones seem to just shrink back with them. Some thing is seriously wrong.

Something is wrong from Chairman Tom down, it has been since Cohen was promoted to CEO TBH.twitchy wrote:I know the tigers have a load of really mediocre players but even the good ones seem to just shrink back with them. Some thing is seriously wrong.

Re: Leicester vs Northampton
Very pleasing watching for a Saints fan. Slightly disappointed we took our foot off the gas a bit later in the game and let Tigers get something back, I guess the result of a 5 day turn around from Sunday. Very annoying not to get the 4th try.

Will be interesting to see how Mallinder goes in this Saints team when he’s back fit. Could see him being a seriously good attacking fullback under Boyd.

Boyd and Co have really done an amazing job in less than a season. Very optimistic for next season now. Hard to imagine how Proctor is going to get into the side!

Hopefully it was his dodgy shoulder that made him a turnstile.Timbo wrote:Will be interesting to see how Mallinder goes in this Saints team when he’s back fit. Could see him being a seriously good attacking fullback under Boyd.

Europe, eh.....Puja wrote:Must-win for Tigers this if we want Europe next year (which really is the absolute minimum requirement). Although you could say that about the majority of our last 6 games.
Buoyed by a lot of returnees, both from injury and internationals. We actually have fit scrum-halves! And the ability to make choices in the backline! And props who aren't either fresh out of school or utterly rubbish! Much, much better.

Yeah, bye bye Europe. Possibly bye bye Premiership on that evidence. I've brushed off suggestions that we're embroiled in a relegation fight before now, as I thought surely we'd have a boost once the internationals got back, but we look just as directionless regardless of which players play. I felt so sorry for George Ford - you could see several occasions where he got given the ball and had to actually stop and look around for what on earth he could do given his lack of options.Banquo wrote:Europe, eh.....Puja wrote:Must-win for Tigers this if we want Europe next year (which really is the absolute minimum requirement). I've not had a huge amount of time for Murphy as coach, given him being the consistent thread of dour attack in our succession of failed coaching regimes, but I was willing to give him a fair go and listen to reports that he'd been held back by previous head coaches. But this is not good enough, just not good enough. Forget our reputation, this is a team with good players in and it's consistently looking less than the sum of its parts. Basically, we either need to have a sudden renaissance, win our last 5 games and get into Europe by a miracle, or he has to go. And the board that appointed him (and O'Connor before him) too.

Is what it is. I hoped being a derby that heart might make up the difference between the teams, especially up front, but Saints were better in that facet too. We denied them a bonus point, that’s about all we can take from that game.
Up front is a huge issues. The only Tiger’s forward I’d want as Northampton would be Genge. The rest are all sub the Saints incumbents and most frankly sub premiership standard.

Youngs, Cole, Spencer, and Thompson are hardly bad players to work with. And I'm willing to bet that both Kitchener and Williams will look much more competent when in their new homes next season. We have more quality than our performances would suggest - we're just making the absolute least out of them.Epaminondas Pules wrote:Up front is a huge issues. Re: Leicester vs Northampton
I think Tigers are suffering from exactly what Saints were - relying on the old names to deliver their top career form, when actually they haven't performed anywhere near that level for so long. Players like Kitchener were really very good a couple of seasons ago, but last night I can't think of much he did positive

Re: Leicester vs Northampton
Those first four might be adequate squad players in/out of the 23 and not letting the side down - IF the other 9 forwards were top quality in the Leicester tradition. How the hell a guy like Slater was dumped defies belief.Puja wrote:Youngs, Cole, Spencer, and Thompson are hardly bad players to work with.
