Re: Brexit delayed
I love the way Change UK made the politically correct decision to appoint anyone but Chuka Umunna as leader...
And then their abbreviation is CHUK...
We can sum up this election in a nice military expression...

I bunged them some money and understood any donation over £500 would see one's name be made public. Have they changed that, or is there a hugely varying take on what constitutes a major donor?Mellsblue wrote:Surely Change UK suffer from almost all the issues you listed for Farage?Which Tyler wrote:Forgot about themBanquo wrote: Change Uk ?

Re: Brexit delayed
I believe that’s the position now. At its inception there were questions, which Ummana avoided. Given subsequent issues with the logo and candidate vetting any major donor may wish they hadn’t bothered.Digby wrote:I bunged them some money and understood any donation over £500 would see one's name be made public. Re: Brexit delayed
So, which party actually aligns best to your politics in the upcoming EU elections (as opposed to tribal identity)?
Proportional representation, so tactical voting isn't really relevant.

I'm being told my top three choices in order are Labour, Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems. Which may speak to its relevance when I wouldn't consider voting the top two.

Why wouldn't you, though? If they're going to deliver on most of what you want...Digby wrote:I'm being told my top three choices in order are Labour, Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems. Which may speak to its relevance when I wouldn't consider voting the top two.
My top 3 were Sinn Fein, Green and Plaid...and I can't vote for any of them, lol.
The Hungarian parties all came waaaay down on the list, all of them are pretty damn terrible.

Double it, add a handful, a pinch of salt and you’re getting close to Labour’s total. We are living through tumultuous political times. On the plus side, politics students of the next couple of generations will have some cracking subject matter to study.Which Tyler wrote:

Socialism isn't what I want, nor people's QE, nor nuclear subs without missiles, nor leaving the single market, nor anti semitism, nor leaving Nato, nor lying if it supports the true vision of the Glorious Leader, nor a bonkers view of Russia that doesn't even exist anymore informing our foreign relations, nor support for supposed socialist nations no matter their behaviour, nor the entryism of the lefty lunaticsinto the Labour party, nor capital controls, nor....
Maybe if they had someone like David Milliband I'd consider it, but now and for the forseeable future it's as likely as voting Brexit Party or BNP

Re: Brexit delayed
Lib Dems showing up well, not too surprising I guess. They need to find themselves a good new leader asap.
In other news, apparently Boris tweeted he'd just voted Tory in the council elections; except there wasn't an election in his manor. Twat.

There are elections where he is registered to vote, ie his house in Oxfordshire, but not in his parliamentary constituency.Banquo wrote:Lib Dems showing up well, not too surprising I guess. They need to find themselves a good new leader asap.

Fair enough, still a twat tho. One wonders why he deleted the tweet.Mellsblue wrote:There are elections where he is registered to vote, ie his house in Oxfordshire, but not in his parliamentary constituency.Banquo wrote:Lib Dems showing up well, not too surprising I guess. Re: Brexit delayed
While we should all be leery of interpreting local elections as a referendum on Brexit, I am getting annoyed by how the coverage and the spin from the two main parties are interpreting it. The ultra-Brexiters lose massively, the governing party making Brexit happen lose massively, the opposition keen on Brexit lose massively, the two parties completely against any form of it gain massively - that clearly suggests that voters are protesting because Brexit hasn't been delivered quickly!

Re: Brexit delayed
Not sure the ultra-Brexiteers are represented. UKIP is a shell of its former self - and unelectable unless you’re a racist - and there is no Brexit party.
The party in power will always lose votes, though not as much as this, but Labour is the standout.

Re: Brexit delayed
I know you think that everything political is about how bad labour (or Corbyn) is, but that's really not the case.Mellsblue wrote:Not sure the ultra-Brexiteers are represented. UKIP is a shell of its former self - and unelectable unless you’re a racist - and there is no Brexit party.

Conservatives are still pro-Brexit, and the standout stories are the collapse of the Conservatives the failure of Labour to to earn any actual trust, and the huge increases in the anti-Brexit parties.

Re: Brexit delayed
I don’t think that and that’s not what I said. I’m saying there is no vote for ultra-Brexiteers in this election, unless you like Tommy Robinson. As above, the Cons should lose seats as they are the party of power but have lost more than you’d expect. Lab should gain as official opposition but have also dropped off a cliff. Yes, that will be about Brexit, mostly from Remainers but also Brexiteers. The thing is, lots of Con voters think the Cons are aiming for Brino and are therefore not pro-Brexit.Which Tyler wrote:I know you think that everything political is about how bad labour (or Corbyn) is, but that's really not the case.Mellsblue wrote:Not sure the ultra-Brexiteers are represented. Re: Brexit delayed
Brexit in name only. Leaving EU but staying in SM/CU.
Clearly a very good night for the LD's. Greens can also be well satisfied.
Tories predictably given a well deserved hammering, and Labour copping some justifiable stick for their abject, cynical fence sitting over Brexit.
The EU elections are going to be even worse for the 2 main parties.

Re: Brexit delayed
That's not unfair. The cult of personality that Farage is building would define a vote for UKIP as treacherous and I suspect his supporters are keeping their powder dry for the Euro elections.Mellsblue wrote:Not sure the ultra-Brexiteers are represented.
