A question for the older heads Re England players in the 80s and 90s

Yup, redemption in autumn '89, played well in the '90 season that should have ended in a GS (chariot wheels fell off at M'field).Continued success through to RWC final '91.(forgot he was in that) - his last in the shirt.

I remember thinking Hill was a step up from Dewi Morris who wasn't very good at distributing the ball at all.

Hill predated Morris in an England shirt iirc

Hill was still playing for England in 91. Morris made his debut in that match against Australia in 88 in Carlings first match as captain.

Good info but my point was that Hill predated Morris in terms of debuting- so not sure what the upgrade point was about.

Wrt Rory Underwood. I can just about remember him scoring a try in the 2nd half at Landsdowne Road in the 1991 5N. England were 7-6(?) down at that point, and I realised that if Ireland won, then England would still have won nothing in the previous 10+ seasons. (Even after having beaten Wales for the first time for years at the Arms Park). Peter Winterbottom and co. had put their bodies on the line for years, and never even got a Triple Crown. After RWs try, England went on to win, took the TC and then the GS. But it was close...

What happened when Mike Teague scored his try to seal the win? I've only seen clips of games from that era as I was a mere baby, but I do remember one of the Irish players having some sort of breakdown or smacking an English player. If it was nowadays that sort of thing would have about 25 different camera angles, but I've never even heard it mentioned.

I cant remember that. Just the Underwood try and a sigh of relief... Upthread someone mentioned Wade Dooley > I can remember his elbow from behind on Doddie Weir. That should have been a red-card, at the very least... Different times, and as you say less cameras. Reminds me of Neil Back being interviewed after another feisty game at Lansdowne Road - BBC cameras had shown a few boots going in. Back simply replied like "With my style of play, I get a shoeing now and again" Nothing untoward at all

Walsall as an area deserves great credit for foisting both Charvis and Moon on Welsh rugby, Donal Trump comes up short against that sort of quality trolling

Don't forget his elder brother Richard Henry Quentin Barker Moon also Walsall SH who played for Eng A.
His inspiration was another Walsallian Jan 'Sprat' Webster of the dominant Moseley team of the 70's (first SH I remember..maybe because of his size & dive-pass),who sadly departed earlier this year..rare wins by Eng in SA & NewZ with him in the team.
