I didn’t realise that, but still it means going into the RWC with a 3rd choice 10 with at most 1 cap (if he gets a run v Tonga). I’m not sure I like that idea.

There's talk of Cruden making a shock return but it's a case of "believe it when we see it." It's already something that has been discussed, but at the end of the day, getting a new 10 out to Japan isn't that difficult, considering how there are direct Air NZ flights from Auckland and Christchurch to Narita or Haneda.
