I'm not perturbed if Lucas or Allen are involved, though I don't know what Dominic Grieve has done especially wrong, Ken Clarke offers another big name they'd just be skipping over, and to get Labour numbers you'd surely want someone like Keir involved given there's no way Corbyn is going to be interested

Allen is a flake. Clarke is of the view that Brexit should happen, so doesn't appeal to Lucas's actual agenda.Digby wrote:Banquo wrote:quite. Its a bizarre idea. Heidi Allen has signed up, so QED.Digby wrote:

A flake who threw away her political career over something she believed in whilst being subject to some vile threats then. If only we had a few more flakes.

Can anyone show me the Leave campaign literature promising the imposition of martial law?

she's the MP in the constituency next to mine, and she's not the martyr or angel you make her out to be. Then again, you have put your money where your mouth is. Having campaigned actively on a Leave ticket to get elected, one might have expected her to resign her seat and stand again.Digby wrote:A flake who threw away her political career over something she believed in whilst being subject to some vile threats then. I think the Tories realised they were heading right and then suddenly looked to boost the number of Cameron One Nation Tory MPs back when Cameron was in charge, suggesting as ever that party leadership exercises no control of local party chooses and wouldn't dream of imposing, and that's created a bit of a muddle with the control still slewing right regardless and the One Nation charges finding themselves increasingly untethered, especially those without a history of membership to the Tory party in the Commons. Whether she's overall not especially bright, or simply not suited to politics I don't know, I really only know her from Brexit and her reaction to that.Banquo wrote:she's the MP in the constituency next to mine, and she's not the martyr or angel you make her out to be. Outstanding work from Nigel as it turns out, and he's getting plenty of column inches which he'll love. And there is a defence of his comments as per an aide to dear Nigel in that he wasn't making the comments as part of a speech, so that's okay then.Digby wrote:Nigel Farage will get back to you once he's finished aping Trump with his going after the one person of colour in the royal familyWhich Tyler wrote:Can anyone show me the Leave campaign literature promising the imposition of martial law?

Amongst all the talk of who should lead any potential GNU, I hear Tom Wood has said that he would reluctantly accept the responsibility of Prime Ministership if offered.

Although, I would absolutely take the shit out of that if it was offered. Tom Wood for PM - the not entirely crap option!

Re: Brexit delayed
I see Boris is using the traditional British negotiating tactic of repeating himself slowly and loudly until those bloody foreigners understand him.
It doesn't seem to be working though, maybe he needs some lessons from Melchett Rees Mogg on the intricacies of swagger stick usage.

I keeping thinking they must have some idea what they're doing and/or wanting to do. Best I figure at the moment though is they hope Preeti Patel can bring back the death penalty and en masse arm the police in the detritus Brexit leaves behind, and thus they're accepting of no small amount of chaos.Which Tyler wrote:I see Boris is using the traditional British negotiating tactic of repeating himself slowly and loudly until those bloody foreigners understand him.

If however they're not planning for chaos they're making a right old hash of this, and what's possessed them to get stuck back into EU migrant rights before even tabling an actual immigration bill I simply don't know

A] They've already started on - 20,000 essentially untrained officers (well, trained in public pacification and curfew enforcement) + however many ICE border force officers... all armed with tasers...Digby wrote:I keeping thinking they must have some idea what they're doing and/or wanting to do. He has been ever since the cockwomble sacked him. He's made it his mission to co-ordinate and advise Europe's far right parties in order to destabilise the EU and promote right-wing ideology.morepork wrote:Please tell me that cunt Bannon is not sticking his oar in over there...

Meanwhile, I plan a trip to the UK on December 2nd. I emailed the consulate because my wife and kids do not currently have passports (we are yet to travel outside the EU since they've been born, so why would we) to ask whether we'd be able to travel on ID cards or if we needed passports, and if so, how long would it take for the kids to get their British passports.
Their reply...
We sympathise with your situation...
blah blah blah.
Basically, they have as much clue as the rest of us. Omnishambles.

Free movement for EU citizens will end on day one of a no-deal Brexit, under new Home Office plans – despite warnings of chaos and of people trapped in legal limbo.
Priti Patel, the new hardline home secretary, is pressing for border restrictions to be imposed immediately on 31 October, even though no replacement system is ready, The Independent has been told.
Previously, ministers had intended to delay scrapping free movement until new rules are in place, with a bill stuck in the Commons and fierce rows over what those rules should be.
