New Director of Rugby = Jim Mallinder
Interesting move and positive from my POV.
Has been in charge of pathways system in england and also of course has senior level Head coach experience. Always thought he came across as a good cnt too. If he can bring a couple of young Anglos with him even better.
Btw - is Shaun Wane still about and what exactly is his role?

Not keen on this appointment myself. Northampton played a turgid style of rugby under him towards the end and he failed to bring through their good young players who made a significant contribution under Boyd last year. The game has moved on and he's been left behind is my gut instinct.

Happy with this - Toony will be held accountable for bad performances.

Shaun Wane was only ever with the SRU on a consultancy basis - presumably to keep the lights on until they hired someone permanently.

He isn't responsible for the style of rugby or is concerned about keeping a from relegation or making the European Cup.switchskier wrote:Not keen on this appointment myself. By all accounts he is very good in the type of role we are putting him in.

Yep, I think that’s positive. Yes everything at Northampton got very stale, but that’s just the way it is, and largely a separate issue.

In fairness he wasn't just turgid at the end with Saints, he was turgid at the start too, but early days the pack had a massive power advantage and they were so often on the front foot they looked good doing almost whatever.

Possibly having someone who believes in forward grunt would be a nice counter to Toony forwards are just backs that run slower

If he could help us develop a few very good up the jumper/ knock ‘em backwards forwards, then good.
I reckon that’s a good job and happy to give him time.

Also, I thought his full name was Big Jim Mallinder.

Mallinder believed in that when he happened to have it and when he didn't. To have it you'd need some forwards who can physically replicate what Tonga'uiha was at club level for Mallinder in the still more rarefied heights of test rugby, which is a bloody big ask, for anyonewhatisthejava wrote:Possibly having someone who believes in forward grunt would be a nice counter to Toony forwards are just backs that run slower

Is he a big guy? His son is only 13 and about 7 foot tall so it would make sense I guess.General Zod wrote:Also, I thought his full name was Big Jim Mallinder.
