I thought Paul James was ruled out after eye surgery but apparently not, would have preferred Eliott Dee to Dacey and perhaps a genuine openside instead of Turnbull who is a very similar player to James King.

Other than that quite pleased.

Winger/Full Back I suppose. But I think he could do a great job on the wing... if you're not expecting much in the way of defence.

Pretty sensible squad. I would have liked to have seen Owen Watkin given a shot, but I'm sure his time will come.

I'm slightly surprised they're taking both James and Walker, and not trying one of the young guys like Ashton Hewitt or Steffan Evans.

Watkin is being rested following ligament strain. He's been withdrawn form the U20 RWC to concentrate on a proper rehab n time for next season.

Hewitt is injured I think and Steff Evans will be off to the World Cup, his defensive play needs work before he can be considered for International rugby imo.

Either Cubby or Jenkins deserved a chance. I also think Sam Davies has been hard done by, considering that Nipper seems to be a perpetual wider squad player, it must have been worth checking if Davies can perform b the midweek game.

Agreed, I forgot about Davies. Yes it's a shame he won't get a chance.

Especially when I'm not convinced that Gatland trusts Nipper enough to actually play him.

Would like to see Cubby and Sam Davies in the squad at some point. It need not necessarily be this tour though. Did I say tour? Sorry I meant 4-0 drubbing.
Gerald Davies, what was he doing there?!

Probably vs Japan then. If not the AIs then perhaps the next summer tour. If not by then, it starts getting into the RWC buildup when coaches like the tried and tested.

They deserve a chance at some point. Club form has to count for something. If the incumbent international is in superb form then it's hard luck, but Gatland has said that he considers none of his players to be in superb form.

I am glad Sam Davies isn't going he would just be on the peripheral anyway as his defence isn't good enough yet. Hopefully he will concentrate on his conditioning this close season and again during pre season and then we will see him push properly to be first choice for club and be an option at international level.

I'd love to argue with you on that, but I don't think I can. I do think that Nipper has genuine talent, but I don't seem him being trusted with an international role by Gatland. Which makes his continued presence in the wider squad a bit of a mystery. Surely better to allow someone with a hope of actually playing the opportunity to take part in squad training?

Maybe he's Gatland's new James Hook. Keep him around for his flexibility but play anyone else but him.

I hope not. Perhaps some game time with the Blues might help his cause. He will probably need to be scoring hat tricks on a weekly basis for his defence to be overlooked.

I can't see him getting that much game time in Cardiff tbh.

I think he will get some game time in the back 3, clearly Anscombe is marked in at 10, plus you have another youngster who has potential at fly half (name escapes me), so full back is the more likely option. Fish is OK but nothing special. If Halfpenny returned then he would be the obvious fit, but it would surely take a huge pot of money to get him out of his current contract.

The young fly half is Jarrod Evans who will be with the U20s in the JWC, however there is also the fullback from the U20s JWC who will be with Cardiff next season Rhun Williams and from what I have seen looks a good prospect. I wouldn't be surprised if he skips ahead of Morgan before long.
