Rob Howley....
... has apparently been sent home from the World Cup under a cloud of accusations relating to gambling and betting infringements. All very unusual and murky

Strange - not a player to take a punt normally..
Wonder how long the dobber-in was holding this bomb.

Unbelievable. Looks like one of the 1980’s California Raisin band membersStom wrote:Wait, Rob Howley is 48? He looks about 60!

Agreed. If their attack in recent times is anything to go by, it’ll be no loss.Danno wrote:Wales' odds of winning the thing just improved

So does he have a genuine issue with gambling? I can't see any other reason why he would make such a blunder?

Buggered if I can see what you can do on attack with the squad they have? No carrying in the pack, limited ability to play the ball at 9 and slow hands across the midfield.Scrumhead wrote:Agreed. It leaves one out passing waiting for a penalty, and hope when the ball is kicked to them Liam Williams can produce some magic on the counter. It's hardly impossible you could win a WC in such fashion but dear god it's dreary stuff.

Their attack seemingly relies on Parkes or JD2 to run a good line
Space to be created so they can put in a cross field kick
Or Williams / North to do a moment of magic
---
It's baffling how effective this can be if their defence is super cohesive

I should note that any further discussion of rumours as to what he's done need to be clear that this is rumour, based around speculation seen elsewhere, and that no-one here is alleging Howley did any of those things. He's innocent until proven guilty and no-one here wants to see Hammy get a lawsuit and shut the place down.
That being said, if the list on the WMB is true, then it's quite astounding.

I'm still reeling from the fact he is only 48 and has, allegedly, a cafe.

Where do we sign on to see p/d sued for defamatory comments?

His plane back landed at 12.50. Or 10 to 1 as he likes to call it.

Re: Rob Howley....
Fair point, perhaps their personnel does not allow for the most inventive attacking game. However, I do feel that JD2, North, Williams and Adams have a lot more attacking ability/potential than Howley was ever able to unlock.Renniks wrote:AgreedDigby wrote:Buggered if I can see what you can do on attack with the squad they have? Yeah, I'm sort of worried this is going to make them considerably better. There's a chance that they get that lift from the excitement of a new coach just as they go into the tournament, having hit a very good run of form in the last 12 months but plateaued slightly.

Over on planet rugby, there's rumours that this is either a) really nothing serious and/or b) this is going to rock the foundations of NH rugby (but it's only Wales).
