So then... France

Post by UKHamlet »

Three unbeaten sides. England, Wales and France.

England are looking the best, to be honest and France seem to be scraping wins, but both French wins have been at home. We look okay-ish, but not in the sort of form you'd want to bet the house on us.

So, how are we going to do against the new kids on the block, the young French tyros?

Should have enough playing as we are to go toe to toe without getting drawn into some wacky chuck around. I am almost hoping we return to boring Gatball #1 for most of the game and only think about width after 60 if we can afford it. England building up a head of steam, though Italy folded so badly in the second half it's hard to know quite how far they're progressing.

We need t get our act together before we play England at Twickenham. We have the talent and we will get better as the tournament progresses, but we need to look more like we have a game plan the players are interested in implementing.

I think tiredness was an issue. But equally I don't think the players are getting the new plan, to be frank, who does?

The Italy England was close until Italy decided to pass to England for them to score under the posts.
England do have some very good backs e.g. J Joseph in the centre is damn good, and Farrell is a good passer.
Their bench made a hell of a difference and Italy seemed to almost throw in the towel, so i am not sure as England
looked doable in the first half.

As for France, this will be a real test, both of them and of us , as we do need to improve.

I think they're trying to wind us up now…

If England play like they did for 50 minutes today, we'll get absolutely spanked by any other 6N team…

My early prediction is that the winner of England v Wales takes the championship.

Scotland and Italy are out of it. Ireland almost certainly out of it. Wales, France and England still unbeaten. I expect Wales to beat France. So I reckon it will be between Wales and England overall.

France have been poor, Scraping two wins, We should beat them but we're not setting the world on fire either, we are just slightly less cr@p.

England V Wales at Twickenham is the big game. Unfortunately think we will struggle up front.

England look very decent but they haven't been tested at all. They won a cripple fight at Murrayfield. They were looking laborious and flakey in Rome until Italy remembered they were Italy, and presented them with the match on a plate. England took the chance ruthlessly to be fair, but you can't tell if they could have fashioned that position for themselves.

France are terrible. They were rescued by the ref against Italy at home, and then scraped past Ireland's U20s largely by cheating.

Wales have come through two tough matches unbeaten. We are worryingly patchy and the "new style" isn't working, but we're getting better. Barring accidents we should take France at home. I don't think we'll have enough at Twickenham, but I've been wrong about that before. Problem is, I can't see who beats England if we don't... :-(

No, they can be ambushed by Ireland or France if either hit their straps but I can't see it. The first half V Italy was a bit of a warning shot too and they patched themselves up quite easily. And there are hordes of them, like orcs.
