Andrew Mehrtens.
Held his mouth funny and looked like he had bad breath. Always played well.
Does come over alright on tv now though.

Are you not aware of the RR RWC rules?!?!? I’ve just had to throw my laptop out of the window.TheDasher wrote: This team would definitely be managed by Clive. It'd be his gun team.
I also agree on Greenwood. It pains me to say it as he would be in my best XV.

You don’t force anyone to listen to it whilst demanding a £30 a month subscription fee.Banquo wrote:He does, but those who cast the first stone (inc me)TheDasher wrote:Greenwood is harmless but does talk some tripe.Banquo wrote: He has become the most irritating ex coach. Greenwood is harmless, and I forgive his daftness as its never malign, plus well, the back story.
Carling would win a place, but its not irrational again.

They gave him a replacement after he thought “I’ve just given that little prick my medal. Why the duck did I do that?”NorthWestRugby wrote:How did you feel when he took it backSpiffy wrote:Now why would a Kiwi go for George "Four More Years" GreganLizard wrote:Gregan![]()

Israel Folau for services to diversity.
Morgan Parra for bringing football acting to rugby, and a tackling technique that involved kick the ball carriers ankles from a safe distance.

What's "irrational" about disliking either of those?morepork wrote:Israel Folau for services to diversity.

Re: Irrationally Irritating World XV
Yeah, I think we're losing sight of the "irrational" bit.
Most of these are purely rational. How can anyone not dislike Folau, Gregan, Hooper, Ashton, etc.
I have an irrational dislike of nearly all Welsh hookers. I don't know why I don't like them, really. They don't do anything to suggest I should dislike them, I just don't like them...
I don't like Goodhue. But that's because he's got a fucking mullet. So that's not irrational.

Re: Irrationally Irritating World XV
Is my hatred for the haka irrational or rational? Or my dislike of the Lions concept in the professional game? Then, there are the kickers who have horrible mannerisms.
I could get left with relatively few to pick who are not irrationally irritating, should I try to pick a XV to oppose the thread's parameters.

Re: Irrationally Irritating World XV
As has been pointed out irrational is personal and difficult because there are usually very rational reasons for disliking players whether it's thuggery (Clark), being a prima donna (Byrne) or just too damned good and seemingly shrouded in a cloak of invisibility that only works on referees and Graham Henry (McCaw). I also think that if you are a scrum half and you're not irritating the opposition then you're doing it wrong.
There, purely irrational would be Jonathan Davies, Rory Best, Sean Lamont and Shalk Britts.

Re: Irrationally Irritating World XV
I too have crossed the Rubicon but at 83 I have the inalienable right to be a 'grumpy old man!
My biggest hate was Max Boyce because he made me laugh so much notwithstanding the fact that at that time Wales regularly beat England. Only Dave Allen made me laugh more.
To revert to to the subject, my nominee for this "Irrationally irritating world XV" would be Johnathan Davies although, if you pushed me, I would admit that my main 'irritation' was for him as a totally biased rugby commentator rather than as a player.

I’d have Wayne Barnes ref their matches. For me, he’s the best ref in the world but his voice, gait and the small shorts irritate me. I’m also disinclined to like him as he is the best ref in the world but can give that up because he’s clever enough to be a top barrister. He’s also punching well above his weight on the domestic front.

Mike Brown - A good bloke who reached the highest level through hard work, guts, and determination rather than raw talent thereby making me hate myself for being softer and lazier than him.
