Sale v Glos

Post by Gloskarlos »

Gloucester Rugby
15. Jason Woodward; 14. Tom Marshall, 13. Billy Twelvetrees, 12. Mark Atkinson, 11. Ollie Thorley; 10. Danny Cipriani, 9. Joe Simpson; 1. Val Rapava Ruskin, 2. Franco Marais, 3. Jamal Ford-Robinson; 4. Ed Slater (capt), 5. Gerbrandt Grobler; 6. Lewis Ludlow, 7. Jaco Kriel, 8. Ruan Ackermann

Replacements
16. Corné Fourie, 17. Josh Hohneck, 18. Fraser Balmain, 19. Freddie Clarke, 20. Aaron Hinkley, 21. Charlie Chapman, 22. Lloyd Evans, 23. Matt Banahan

Unavailable for selection:
Callum Braley, Ruan Dreyer, James Hanson, Chris Harris, Willi Heinz, Ciaran Knight, Ben Morgan, Franco Mostert, Jake Polledri, Henry Trinder, Owen Williams

Reasonable side, not sure what’s up with Morgan, Hinckley has played exceptionally in warm up and cup games, we will see if JFR can hold his own at this level.

I didn't know Glos had signed Simpson, good signing he should suit their all court game.

His previous with DC should help too, again though, we offload a future Potential England 9 to Wasps (this time Vellacott, previously Dan Robson) and sign a proven but slightly long in the tooth replacement....

Young Chapman looks like he has potential and Braley is now an Italian international so I guess I ought not to complain too much.

Sale Sharks: Hammersley; Ashton, James, Redpath, McGuigan; R Du Preez, Cliff; Harrison, Van der Merwe, Cooper-Woolley, Beaumont, J Du Preez, Ross, Curry, D Du Preez.

Replacement: Webber, Oosthuizen, John, Phillips, Evans, Papier, Van Rensburg, Yarde

Good to see Yarde back.

Many Du Preezeseses. Looks relatively evenly matched, Sale away not normally a good fixture for Glos.

It's a bit of a monster pack from Sale. And this with de Jager to come too.

Glos undoubtedly ahead in the backs, but it'll be pretty even upfront (and fairly even on the number of Saffas playing). Hoping Kriel can deliver on his promise and string some games together.

Fascinating game. Sale have impressed in pre season and will want to get off to a good start. Can Glos match last seasons efforts?
I confess the heavy SA influence in these 2 sides is not something I am thrilled about.

5 for Glos. 7 for Sale. Every other Glaws player in that squad bar one is EQP. Not disastrous.

I feel the same.

On paper, it should be the game of the round though.

Glos win ugly by 2 points, coming back from 13 - 0 down. Not pretty, many errors and little pre season game time from first team players very apparent. Diamond will be fuming as Sale had a relatively easy kick at the death for victory, he was also continually pi55ing in the ear of the officials to get Danny sent off for ‘high tackles’ of which there were none, although his tackling was pretty upright.

Ashton not scoring because he went with one hand when there really wasn't a need and getting the ball knocked out was a favourite moment for me.

Indeed, fair play to Simpson for disrupting, he had a decent game I thought..
