Re: Barclay
He's been a very impressive player to watch, not just going well at 7 but at 6 too which surprised me. A shame he wasn't fit (or match fit) at the WC, but I guess it's more the norm you don't get to go out on a high, and I really enjoyed watching him play, even when he was causing lots of problems for us.

Great player. Should have been a lion at some point I feel. And yes a massive shame that he wasn’t really up to it at this World Cup.
Even he looks dubious about this stat though.

A player that probably didn't get as many caps as he deserved. Was always destined for big things since the early days of his career. Shame he never got the big WC performance he would have loved.
Shame we didn't see he and Rennie play 6 and 7 for the years we could have.
Will be valuable to Edinburgh for the remainder of his career.

Yep. The talk of this being 1 chapter of his rugby career suggests he may hang around and look towards coaching?
He seems the type. Appears to love the off-field stuff and having him learn something off Cockerill if he can would be great. AFAIK that’s just me speculating though, dunno if he has ever commented on it?

he had a big RWC performance in his very first cap, aged 20 IIRC. Outplayed some geezer wearing an invisibility cloak.Big D wrote:A player that probably didn't get as many caps as he deserved. He would have had loads more caps, but for the reason he didn't get them you'd need to ask the guy, the petty genius, who black balled him for years

Re: Barclay
That is true. McCaw spoke highly of him that day. Although given we are left to pick a game from his 1st WC in a heavy defeat for a second string side doesn't feel "big" even though he played well. Hadden made that game feel smaller than it should have been. A home world cup game v NZ should have been a big occasion but that was spoiled by Hadden sign posting he would name a weakened side.septic 9 wrote:he had a big RWC performance in his very first cap, aged 20 IIRC.Big D wrote:A player that probably didn't get as many caps as he deserved. Was robbed of his place at the 2015 world cup. No one could convince me then or now that Hardie and Cowan were better options for the backrow.

A world class player on his day that didn't get the caps he deserved. Should have been a centurion. Thanks for the memories.
