Re: Unner Twennies
very good start, forwards running hard on to a ball put right in the bread basket. But like the big boys last week failed to turn enough of that pressure and dominance into points. Dominance in the scrum quite significant, and maul, but lost far too many lineouts. England managing to get a jumper up in the right place too often, as if we telegraphed the throw (and no variety). Ultimately that probably lost the game.
England didn't contest the breakdown a lot, just enough to slow ball (ref fairly lenient IMHO) so absolutely stacked defence which is very hard to run through or round. And like the big boys faced with that all too often no plan B
Other worry was we ran out of gas last quarter, badly. Forwards stopped running on to the ball, and errors crept up in all aspects.
Perhaps a bit negative but some real plus points - the set scrum was excellent against what looked a pretty big England pack. Chamberlain has quite a boot and did some nice stuff, Frostwick a bit of an enigma, nor real mistakes but always takes a Laidlaw (step)before he passes. sometime stat's right and it looked coached but sometimes a pick and pass is just that bit better. He tries to break but don't think he has either the strength or acceleration to hack it but does enough to keep defence honest.
Boyle and Darge are prospects. Shame they are going to be stuck behind Watson and Richie at Edinburgh

Re: Unner Twennies
Thanks for that. At least looks more promising than last year with some players likely to break through
Re: Unner Twennies
Game's on Facebook. Just gone through some good phases in the 22 to get the first score. 0-5.
Re: Unner Twennies
And a score from giving it some width after the pick n goes in the 22. Simple give would have been better than chucking it out the back. 7-12.
Re: Unner Twennies
And as I laboriously type, some nice running. 14-12.

Anyone got a link I can watch on my phone?
Have got the passion back. Some 7 y.o. Barolo cask matured Edradour has nothing to do with it. However, I am 60.8% certain Scotland will do it!

That was a fun game, good result and you could see what it meant to them at the end. Usual standouts (Ashman/Darge/Boyle), though I still like the look of Frostwick, particularly in comparison to the lad that started.
Re: Unner Twennies
Hope you got the link.
Another close & tense game in Italy! They had their tails up in the second half and made their own luck. Think they had an 11-point lead at one point, but we stuck in there and finished strongly. Had the composure to wind down the clock and take a kick to see it into the red.
Couple of good players in the back row, and 5 looked impressive. I guess the 9s were 2nd & 3rd choice, but did well. Pretty good game all round.

29-22 in the end to France. They brought on a new front row in second half and I think that made the difference. It's a decent Scotland u20 team though. Thought Ollie Smith at 15 was very good.

It seems that this group has benefited from that extra year together and just being that bit older. I suspect there may be a regression next year.

Wales U20 have been really inconsistent. Poor against Italy but much better against England and France. They appear to be second best tonight.
Re: Unner Twennies
Really nice try from them. Went through a few phases and got a ragged defensive line and moved it wide very effectively.

Well, that was cheery in these dark times.
I know the Welsh were shite, but some of the Scottish guys looked as though they`d played rugby before.

Re: Unner Twennies
Defense was good and the pack was good as a unit, with speed and accuracy at the rucks. 5 and 7 stood out for me. Scrum half was good too. Harder to say about the backs; two scores up for most of the game so the sensible option was mainly to kick, which they did, controlled the game well.
