not being densely populated is a good start, adherence to isolating/distancing rules essential..

Nurse Jenny from Invercargill did her bit - special mention from the PM for keeping him alive at his lowest ebb. :)

Even the least populated areas of Britain are very densely populated.

We also have a lot of people who commute long distance into London. Routinely there are people who travel from South Wales, Devon, West Country and North West into London every week. Lots of opportunity for the virus to spread quickly.

A few words on Sweden. Smoking is practically non-existent there. By most accounts that will suppress the numbers of deaths. Add to that the larger number of people living alone and the article I posted before. Anyway they're starting to look like they've got through the worst with no lockdown. Currently death doubling time is 6 days which is the same as the UK and US who have both had substantial lockdowns for weeks.

Sweden might present an opportunity for Farage or similar. No one else is in position to criticise from the "we should have done less" standpoint

By example.....ie the complete opposite of Italy. Add in average age of Sweden 40.7 v 47.3 Italy and far less international travel and the Swedes had quite a lot working in their favour by comparison.
All that said, it may be an anomaly or it may just be a delay in the peak.

Chinese government very quick to blame people from abroad entering the country. Frankly who knows if that is the real reason.

What is very concerning is the reports from South Korea of people catching the disease twice. Perhaps they have been unfortunate and picked up a different strain of the disease (apparently covid mutated quite early on) or maybe getting over it once doesn’t mean you are immune. Which would be very worrying.

The Swedish numbers are erratic to say the least. The daily deaths shot up to around 100 for a few days then straight down to the 10-20 range for the last few days. Is it just a data collection delay over the Easter weekend? I imagine they'll go up again.

If data collection at this time were delayed for a space zombie festival, then I'd want someone's head on a fucking plate.

Better news for uk - new cases and deaths appear to be nudging off the plateau slowly.
Elsewhere, Russia experiencing a nasty spike.

I wouldn't look at daily anything. And as we've said the "number of cases" is more to do with the amount of testing than anything else. Sweden's death doubling time is down to 6 days, which is the same as us and the US. 3 day rolling average could be affected by Easter but that looks good.

Agreed, one day's number shouldn't be looked at in isolation.

Krakatoa is erupting, plagues of locusts bigger than ever, out of control forest fire approaching the Chernobyl sarcophagus, and coronavirus.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Anyone fancy painting Trump as the anti-Christ? I always though he would be more suave and sophisticated but maybe Hollywood got that wrong.
