Looks like a promising group of players.
But where do they go from this ?
Glas./Edbh. are stuffed.

The fact they are stuffed tells me it's time for a new pro team.

It will be the new Southern Kings of the league for a bit but it will pay off in a decade or two.

as soon as you stump up £10m a year and guarantee it for at least 10 years, you can have another team. Or you can defund the current 2 and have 3 sets of Southern Kings

superb and very enjoyable win, and there are some very good players in there.

However, last night apart we squeaked a one point win over Italy and lost (not thumped to be fair) to the other 3 - and while you can only play what is front of you it can't be over stated how poor Wales were. But we did a proper job on a poor side, which is in itself encouraging

There are a lot of downsides but a lot of upsides too.

RE Septic's comments, I wouldn't run one at the expense of the other 2. Glasgow can spare a centre, Edinburgh a prop, etc. Or players like Matt Smith who are solid professionals but really have nowhere else to go because they're not that spectacular.

I think some kind of partnership agreement with LS could get the funding needed.

What happened with that 20% stake that the SRU were taking in a US expansion team?

I'm not sure that the pro teams really are full or that this set of U20s is going to produce more than a few pro players. A fair few are in their second year playing at this level, particularly in the tight five. Darge and Boyle look ready for some game time but does anyone really think that there isn't room for competition in glasgows backrow? Smith has looked lively but again, if he's going to make it at the very top level you'd back him to gain a place at either of the proteam squads covering fullback. What we do perhaps need is the option to send a few promising youngsters elsewhere for a season or two to get experience and then integrate them back in, the way Cherry did with Nice.

.
its not just a matter of players, its funding a team, over a prolonged period. If you can't stump up new cash, then it comes from existing budgets. It is not possible as things stand to set up a third team without weakening the other 2.

from where?
There are reasons why various partnership models with LS have been tried with varying success. Next season LS and pretty much every team in the championship are essentially going to be part time professionals when the RFU reimpose the swinging cuts they have paused. Any funding we have should be spent here, on making Edin/Glas budgets more competitive or on Super 6 budgets (or expanding S6 to S8)

still hold it (wasn't a lot of cash invested). Its a small stake in a league which could be worth loads if it takes off. Meantime its a bridge to partnerships, talent spotting etc.

Old Glory lost their first game this season, won the next 4 - beating the previous champs in the process

common sense post.

By a handful - I guess we could argue what that means!

Ashman and Lambert should make it comfortably. Also Chamberlain and Henderson. Boyle and Darge should but one needs to be moved off the Edinburgh set up - competition for places is great but its hard enough for a young player to get game time almost impossible for 2 competing for the same position.
Smith I agree, also McLean just might.
That would be a good return on this seasons squad

Ashman and Lambert should make it comfortably. Not forgetting the TH whose name escapes me but the scrum was anchored superbly every game. Also Chamberlain and Henderson. Big season for Ashman next year if Webber retires as expected. He could make himself the first choice backup and push for the number one slot if they believe in him. Chamberlain I'm less convinced by as he not only has to get past Sheedy but the young welsh 10 Lloyd has been getting time this season whereas Chamberlain is yet to make any sort of appearance for Bristol.

Blain has a pro contract but was only on the bench last night. Has anyone seen him in super 6 this season?

think Blain had been injured and not long back. TBH he had looked very much like a player lacking confidence and half the prospect of a year ago. I thought much the same after he came on until his draw and pass on Fri night, was top class.

Ashman should be pushing for top slot, but Diamond is...............nah, I'll leave it. Dimes will likely sign another Bok hooker. Ashman is already better than the penalty machine one they have

Lloyd has looked a prospect. Chamberlain hasn't had a start is fair comment, and has to get past those 2 at least. If I was him I'd be looking to move on. He showed an all round game and maturity all 6N. SRU might be talking to him. Back up for Hastings and gametime at Glasgow, or back up to two average joes at Edinburgh for a coach who doesn't think there is anyone in the Scottish system and has gone public on bringing in a 10? (so might be behind 3)

Small thing in the grand scheme but if the U20 tournaments don't go ahead this year the under 20s are stuck down a competition for another year.

Some actual rugby news! Callum Henderson has signed for Leicester - https://www.leicestertigers.com/news/ti ... new-season

Must be a good thing. Not much space up here for second rows

Leicester have some decent young talent in Lewis and Lavanini but that looks like a good move with a chance to start some games. Suspect that next season (if it goes ahead) we will see fewer youngsters breaking through though as there will be less time in camp to impress.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Not really the place for it but this team of the Super6 gives an idea of how some young talent is doing.
