Interestingly, the article doesn't mention Jack Stanley, who according to Thistle Scottish Rugby Podcast twitter account, is eligible for us.

What about Jordan Venter? Is he now 3 years instead of 5?
Have just seen a photo of him - he looks ready already!

No, he would have needed to be three years into his residency by the cut off.General Zod wrote:What about Jordan Venter? Is he now 3 years instead of 5?

apparently born in Scotland. But has played a number of times for England U20 . He wouldn't be near a Scotland squad anyway TBH.Scottish Caley Fan wrote:

Looks like David Muihuizen (lock) can be added :O.
In fact, it looks like moves are afloat to try and get him on board.

I doubt we are offering "an absolute fortune". Sounds like his agent has been trying to scare WP.

kind of - its his coach speaking but 2 things to put in some context. SA wages are very low compared to ours, so in relative terms he could have been offered "an absolute fortune" - but that need not be a huge wage here, and of course nothing to what and English or French team could offer.Big D wrote:I doubt we are offering "an absolute fortune". I think its really the coach making a point about how difficult is is to keep players of there is interest from outside the country. Sounds like a familiar problem.
However it sounds like we have made an offer, and I'd guess its for Glasgow

Yes that is true but "an absolute fortune" suggests good money, if not huge by our standards, and the coach would have heard through the DoR (or whoever deals with the contracts) and that person will be speaking to the agent.septic 9 wrote:kind of - its his coach speaking but 2 things to put in some context. I can't see the SRU giving out many decent contracts this coming summer and they may have to pay a good wage to keep some of the guy they may lose on the books. If I recall the details correctly, the Scottish clubs may be forced to lose some of the guys they don't want to.
Edinburgh have some big/good contracts potentially coming off the books with Mata OOC, Watson OOC and maybe Nel (I can't remember if he was extended or not) so may have a limited budget, not sure about the Glasgow contract situation, but Cummings* is nearing the end of his deal and his number will only rise from what it was, Johnson is more established as a fixture in the Scotland squad etc.
Cummings is an interesting one, if he is still OOC in July, it could lead to an interesting game of chicken. The SRU should be looking to agree a deal ASAP where as for Cummings and his agent his value will only rise, especially if he ends up looking like a bolter to wear red next summer.

Hmmm. In sport it’s a short career and you strike when the iron’s hot. Wouldn’t surprise me if he goes away to France.Big D wrote:Yes that is true but "an absolute fortune" suggests good money, if not huge by our standards, and the coach would have heard through the DoR (or whoever deals with the contracts) and that person will be speaking to the agent.septic 9 wrote:kind of - its his coach speaking but 2 things to put in some context. And I think our ability to offer a wee bit more bunce just increased thanks to the Scottish government. If I read it correctly, it’s £15m free and £5m loan? I’d like to think a decent chunk of that would go to clubs too, mind. Sort out their facilities as well. I suspect that after all this shit is over, joining a sports club will be more popular than ever. I do hope it reverses the trend seen across many sports.
Golf certainly has benefitted from a desire to get outdoors with numbers right up. Let’s hope it follows through to rugby.

The boy Meihuizen is on telly now playing for Stormers v Pumas, if anyone’s interested. Not the highest class of opposition, but the opposite lock, van Vuren, is decent. Our man is in the red scrum cap.
Kolisi and Kitshoff also in the pack.

How did he get on would he be a good addition to the Scotland team?General Zod wrote:The boy Meihuizen is on telly now playing for Stormers v Pumas, if anyone’s interested. Not the highest class of opposition, but the opposite lock, van Vuren, is decent. Our man is in the red scrum cap.

He was ok, no more. Difficult to tell on that performance as I don’t think WP played particularly well as a team. Almost going through the motions a wee bit because they knew they would win.Scottish Caley Fan wrote:How did he get on would he be a good addition to the Scotland team?General Zod wrote:The boy Meihuizen is on telly now playing for Stormers v Pumas, if anyone’s interested.
