Watched the game again and specificlly, after the final whistle showed real class for Hogg to let the dubutants lift the cup, even after it , he was desperate for everyone else to hold the cup and be apart of it.
I mean, first captain since Laidaw snr to win down there and he opted to let the two new boys lift the cup, I think that will do a huge amount for team morale in the weeks and months ahead and his players will want to reward that for him in a completely different way.
Showed real class and for me showed real captaincy
Hogg

Re: Hogg
Yes, class act all round and thoroughly deserving of the praise
I've never quite understood the scepticism around his captaincy. Yes, fullback if a difficult position to captain from, yes he could do with being more pragmatic in devision making sometime, and yes some of his comments in post match interviews have been a bit daft.
But thats only part of leadership. And what he seems to do well is inspire those around him and give them belief. It is a cliche of sports starts that they always say that they can achieve 'something special': but he really believes it, and expects his team mates to as well. He and Gregor seem to be genuinely changing the mindset and culture of the team
Whilst we probably never know fully what happened with Finngate this time last year, Hogg, as captain, must have played some role in getting that to a positive conclusion. Coupled with his mistakes against Ireland and England in last years 6N, that must have been a really difficult few weeks for him, and that he can bounce back so strongly speaks volumes to his mental fortitude
Of course, I may still be pissed from last nights celebrations. But good luck to the fella
