Starting Earl and Curry on flanks?

Post by jngf »

Would there be mileage on starting Earl and Curry on flanks in upcoming test ( and am deliberately not being prescriptive on who is 6 and who is 7)?

Btw for those of who are bored of my backrow threads do not feel obliged to comment (Yet again) to that effect, just politely ignore it :)

I'd quite like to see any changes, just so we start learning about the side. The 6Ns is lost, so let's see if we can develop

Well this comment is fine, there’s definitely mileage to be had in pairing the two of them

Curry and Earl on the flanks is fine if Billy V is at 8 and back to ripping up trees. I don't think he is but he got praise from a lot of sources for his performance on Saturday.

Curry and Earl with Wilson at 8? Not so sure.

Curry and Earl with Tom Willis at 8? I'd like to see it. That is the sort of change worth trying now that we've botched our GS chances.

I still want Simmonds at 8 but it won't happen with Jones.

I don't see why it matters who is at 8. Yes, balance is something to aim for, as is having your best performing player son the pitch. And with a limited squad to choose from there is little else you could do.

That said it depends on the outcome you want to achieve. I'm not sure what it would give other than Earl is a bloody good player who seems to be taking well to international rugby and maybe deserves a start to see how he goes.

It would be pacy, and that might help if we want to move the ball faster. They might get knocked about as a combo by some sides, say France but France are likely to do us for power whatever we pick. Whether the decision making is good enough as a pair to take advantage of the pace I don't know, but it's not a horrible idea. I'd be hesitant to make more than 3 changes tops though, ideally 1 or 2
