Picking a squad based on club units
Just curious how people would pick a Premiership squad around the Units ie Frontow, 2nd Row, Backrow, Half Backs, Centres, Back 3 and Bench on a Club basis based on this season. As a starter I would go...
FRONTROW
2nd ROW BRISTOL
BACKROW
HALFBACKS QUINS
CENTRES BRISTOL
BACK 3
BENCH
FRONTROW
2nd ROW BRISTOL
BACKROW
HALFBACKS QUINS
CENTRES BRISTOL
BACK 3
BENCH

It's hard as in some positions there aren't a full selection of English players of the quality needed.
Bristol's front row?
Quins backrow?
I'd go with Bath's back 3 just to get Watson in there.

Baths front row works for me.
The green, black and gold army.

Sorry Stom I wasnt talking just EQP but who has the best units regardless where they come from. My mistake I shouldve made that clear.Stom wrote:It's hard as in some positions there aren't a full selection of English players of the quality needed.

In that case, still Quins backrow and it’s eqp.

Bath Front Row - Obano Dunn Stuart
Exeter Second Row - Gray Hill
Bristol Third Row - Luatua Earl Hughes
Leicester Halves- Youngs and Ford
Sale Centres - RJVR & Manu
Exeter Back Three - Nowell Cuthbert Hogg
Very simple, power and pace

I'd go Radrada plus either of POC or Piutau. Then the back three might also get to play more. Plus the Sale pair is somewhat short on playing together.Digby wrote:Bath Front Row - Obano Dunn Stuart

I thought in terms of England selection it was interesting actually.
Obano, Dunn, Stuart
Launchbury, Gaskell?
Chisholm, Evans, Dombrandt / Shields, Willis, Barbeary / Ellis, Underhill, Mercer
Care, Smith / Youngs, Ford
Devoto, Slade
McConnochie, Cokanasiga, Watson

If you wanted to get the ball to the back 3 than Redpath and JJ is an option, if I lose marks for unrealistically picking a back three that hasn't played together I'll have to hang my head in shame.Banquo wrote:I'd go Radrada plus either of POC or Piutau. I did think about Brizzle for the centres, but for an English league the power of the Sale pair looked too tempting. and before I started thinking individual players I did think about Sale for locks and back row, but couldn't build an actual unit, and then I suddenly remembered the centres they had, which along with Cuthbert gives me 8 if not 9 legitimate carriers and maybe just about enough support between the pack, the centres and Nowell

Re: Picking a squad based on club units
A Sale back row of Ross, T.Curry and JLDP works. Or if you think Ross is too much of a risk then Tom, Ben and JLDP would also work now. Tom is good enough to play 6 or 7 at the very top level.

Think its at least good to have the option of using the back threeDigby wrote:If you wanted to get the ball to the back 3 than Redpath and JJ is an option, if I lose marks for unrealistically picking a back three that hasn't played together I'll have to hang my head in shame.Banquo wrote:I'd go Radrada plus either of POC or Piutau. TBH, the way Brizz play, could do worse than pick from their array of back three options...Charles Piutau plus any two of their wings look tempting

That really is just picking Charles Piutau and any two other players, which still isn't the worst plan

Re: Picking a squad based on club units
What about if you do it base on the squad depth?
For example
Half Backs - Tigers would be
Youngs, Wigg, JVP, White
Ford, Henry, McPhillips, Bonilla

I mean, 9's all right, but 10 is probably better characterised as Ford, gap, Henry, giant gap, McPhillips, gaping chasm, Bonilla.Tigersman wrote:What about if you do it base on the squad depth?

Re: Picking a squad based on club units
Are we allowed to assume form?
If so:
Front Row: Bath: Obano, Dunn, Stuart
Second Row: Exeter: Gray, Hill
Back Row: Bath: Mercer, Faletau, Underhill
Half Backs: Leicester: Youngs, Ford
Centres: Exeter: Devoto, Slade
Back 3: Bath: Cokanasiga, Watson, McConnochie
Feels like a lot of Bath bias for me; but... I struggle to see better options there

Re: Picking a squad based on club units
Either you really like the Bath players generally, or you really hate the Bath halfbacks 'cause they're doing so little on the back of all that talent. Could go either way.
