I think it’s a fair point though that Farrell (for instance) makes massive blunders quite regularly, but it doesn’t fit the maverick narrative so generally doesn’t* get a mention. Hogg still gets a pretty generous response from pundits compared to someone like Russell though.

*That’s changed a bit now the media have turned on him though.

Does Farrell make full-on blunders though? I mean, there are occasions where he throws a loopy or innaccurate pass, but I don't recall seeing him intercepted for example. I'd say Fazlet's a limited player, but he usually seems to stay within those limits (at least in attack), rather than being overconfident and muffing something up like Hogg seems to do.

Note, Hogg is a far superior player (blunders and all), I'm just asking because of my dodgy memory

Farrell does make some howlers, all players do of course.

For a such a supposedly brilliant player, Hogg makes ones that you wouldnt expect, like missing a simple pass or getting badly caught out when defending. I like him and he's good to watch but his play is littered with poor execution of some pretty basic skills.

...yeah? He’s leaked tries through interceptions, charge-downs, missed tackles etc. Not sayings it’s through over-confidence or he does these all in one game, though I think he did manage the full house vs Scotland a couple of years back.

I’m not trying to paint him as the cartoonishly incompetent version of Farrell that we’re seeing from ‘fans’ and pundits since his recent fall from popularity (actually thought he was playing fairly well by the end of the 6 nations) but he’s prone to a few big blunders alongside the points that get left out on the field due to vision or execution.

Ah fair enough - my memory is shot to pieces, so it was a genuine question.
