Seems harsh on Nche who I thought was very good.
I don't get the introduction of Wiese at 8. The number 8 in their system is key to setting defence off 1st phase, already without Vermuelen who was just outstanding at calling the shots on whether an attack was going short or open they've lost some experience and now to just remove more experience again seems odd. Like the Lions they don't attack much, they will try to build everything off the defence and any loss of communication in the 8 shirt surely can't help them.
Wiese might be outstanding, but time in a role leading a side in their defence is so important.
I suppose SA are now even more physical, any maybe that's all they need
Wow, I feel a lot more confident about this after last week, but I'm still completely lost over Adams's exclusion. I guess Gatland isn't trying to score tries (something he didn't prioritize when coaching Wales either).

If the Lions are planning on kicking a lot, then Wiese could be invaluable in carrying back kicks. Give him a run-up and he'll knock a hole in any defence.
As a Leicester fan, I do love him - he's so important to us and such a talismanic carrier. However, he does always feel like a card waiting to happen, especially if he's stymied and can't put his stamp on the match. The Lions should try and keep the ball as much as possible early on and set Curry and Lawes to man-mark him when South Africa have possession. Sooner or later, he'll go charging into a breakdown shoulder-first.

Yeah I imagine this is it. There seems to be a lot of talk about Le Roux and Smith not working together at the back as well as they'd have liked in returning kicks. As Squidge Digby says there does seem to be a big focus on the 8 role in organizing the defence, which you wouldn't think they'd want to give up on completely, but they're also missing Vermeulen's destructive ball carrying. Kwagga Smith weirdly seems to have very few caps to his name, given his status.
I understand wanting Adams in the side, but VDM and Watson's try-scoring records would seem an odd angle to go at in criticising Gatland for not picking try scorers.

I think for athletes they rely on a progressive exercise protocol, that matches self-reported emotional and cognitive symptoms with a progressive ramping up of physical activity, which helps combat cognitive abnormalities as defined in controlled human and animal studies of disease. Such studies, as scarce as they are, have shown it takes about 7 days for MRS metabolic abnormalities to normalise after trauma and any repeat trauma within or close to that window results in a longer recovery time in both animals and hoomans. The animal studies have correlated reduced evoked action potential and other physiological measures of compromised neural function being in concert with MRS metabolic abnormalities, and that combination bears a striking resemblance to the early stages of dementia in disease models. There are obviously potential sources of bias inherent in the self reporting aspect of the key cognitive and exercise tolerance variables in elite athletes Vs. normal fat bastards when deciding to return to play and the window of vulnerability to long term damage from repeated episodes is based on a not necessarily appropriately statistically powered set of MRS data fit for every individual. That means the decision to return for elite athletes suffers from a possibly inaccurate metric for a given individual. It's largely theoretical, unfortunately. If every professional rugby player donated their brain and clinical history to a study we might have a definitive, but...
Animal tests must have been fun, not sure what would be the worse job, holding the monkey or swinging the hammer.

I gave up watching Squidge a long time back, but it wouldn't surprise if someone else had spotted the bleedin' obvious. Really the only stuff I now watch is GDD
It's a fair point Smith only has a few caps, I actually looked it up before posting the previous comment and I was surprised how few caps he had. It almost invalidates the point, but it still feels like he's been around a little longer. Perhaps Wiese is impressing in training they're happy he can take on the job, but it looks a big ask in advance, even with the return of Malherbe
I'd get brining Wiese in if this wasn't a Lions series, but this like the quarter final of the WC onwards is one of those few instances the idea of development is largely if not entirely irrelevant

Kwagga Smith is just too small to play No. 8 in the Bok gameplan, which requires a big physical bloke in that slot. He is, however, a great open side flanker in the traditional mould. I would shift him to flank and drop Kolisi who has looked very ordinary for some time.
Number wang being a game it's hard to ascertain the point of seems apt for the tactics of the Lions and SA, bar number range does amuse for a 15-20 second sketch

How long would it take Cockerill or Diamond to be informed of their ban after releasing a video like that? half an hour?
Although, to be fair, I can't see either Cockerill or Diamond having the patience to orate for over an hour, with video references of all the places that they've been terribly hard done by. They're much more of a 5-minute after-match blaze sort of lot.

TBH, I suspect that they'd simply think that training players, and looking at video analysis of players and future refs would be a more useful spend of their time.
Quite honestly, masturbating would be a healthier spend of their time too - more rewarding for sure

I’d never really heard Erasmus speak until I saw that clip of him tearing up talking about Mapimpi and Beast and their drive to win. I really warmed to him and it actually made me feel a lot better about losing the final.
I can’t bring myself to watch this video though. Sounds like he’s losing his mind. I’m worried that in a sense he may be right that the social media game could be a massive factor in a team’s success, or their sway with a referee at least, but this does not seem like a healthy or effective way to do it.
And when I was eight my brother got a bike for Christmas and I was sure I was getting one too, but I didn't and that really affected me. Then when I was 14 I asked Karen to the year-end school disco. Everyone said she would say yes but she went with Kevin instead and called me a tiny-pecker loser. That really affected my self esteem. Wait. You're not recording this, are you?
