Love love love this, highlighted it to the kids at school as a brilliant use of tech for something other than its rather pointless, albeit quite cool, original design...

For those that can't be arsed, it's an article on using oculus rift technology to quickly and effectively diagnose concussion in American football players. No reason why it can't be used in rugby too.... saw a stat the other day that before HIA came into action, up to 56% of players would show signs of concussion at the end of a pro rugby game. Don't know how true that is, but it's bloody scarey!

Concussion meets computer technology...
It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Anything that helps with players' welfare in areas of serious injury has got to be good.
The frequency, type and size of collision that is now normal means that the chances of high, late, accidental hits that give the biggest shocks are high and with round-the-calendar commitments at higher levels, it's bound to cumulate sooner.
Don't want to see helmets in the game or bans at school as data starts building up though, rather somehow change the balance on the pitch...
fewer players perhaps ?..
