Aust v Eng III: man up please, Wobbalies

Post by Lizard »

Ok. That's enough.

Yes, it's been a bit of fun seeing Eddie Jones do his thing with the Aussie press. And it's always good to see the Wallabies put back in their box for a bit, but it's time to get real.

With just a 6N win and two defeats of a fairly ordinary Australian team, English fans have as usual gone right off the deep and are talking about winning RWCs, getting to no. 1, doing better than SCW and beating the All Blacks.

It's time to sow some seeds of doubt before this cockiness explodes into full Wilko mode.

If the Wallabies could please disassemble England by about 25 points on Saturday, you would be doing us all a favour.

Having reached #2 we've had the gall to wonder how we get to #1?

Wouldn't you like to face more opponents that think, even wrongly, they have some sort of chance? Not feckin Wales?

It would seem that Fox, Smith and Hansen's view that if we ever sort our shite out the AB's would have some problems to deal with in the near future is coming true, long may it continue!

Actually, there is a bit of gall involved.

Beating Aussie twice in a row is nothing to get all shouty about. You did that in the two matches leading into RWC2015, which didn't seem to help.

NZ are 7.6 ranking points clear of second. That is a greater difference than spans 2nd to 7th places.

Put it this way, if England went home now and convinced the NZRU to ditch the Championship this year and play a three test series in England instead, and England whitewashed the All Blacks and won three in row (which they have never done - SCW only managed 2), the All Blacks could still fly back home as No. 1.

I would happily adjust our November tour to knock some sense into the Twickers blazer brigade. Unfortunately, we have to rely on Cheika's mob of shackle draggers to do it for us.

We can always loan them the Chiefs seconds to do the job. After all, lets look at the facts.
  1. The Chiefs beat Wales by 37 points
  2. England beat Wales by 4 points in the Six Nations
Therefore, if we subtract the points differentials, we can conclude that the Chiefs are at least 33 points better than England.

You're clearly all ****ing yourselves already. Come to Twickers this Autumn, I dare you. We'll spend 79 mins pretending you're on top, when we know we can score whenever we want, then in the last couple of minutes we'll send on Jamie George and Lawes to rip through you and let the pantomime villain score the winning try. Just don't come crying to me when it happens.

I don't see us becoming a better team than you that quickly, if at all, but you don't think we should even bother trying?

Aus seem like the next best thing (especially if we can beat them 3-0 at home) to beating you guys. Gulf or not. Is that incorrect?

I'll add the disclaimer that I don't really know if you're responding to general English rugby media idiots/journos, or rugby fans that just happen to be English.

I can see what's going to happen.

There's no way for England to get enough rankings points to get to No 1 without playing NZ. The NZRU will therefore have sufficient bargaining power to decline any invitation to play England other than for 85% of the Twickenham gate takings.

That's all they need to know in order to do what?

Maybe the All Blacks should stop doing rugby completely if it's not even a competition anymore.

I actually hope that England win.

My view is:

A) fuck the Ozzies at every opportunity
B) a little overconfidence in the England side will make their inevitable self destruction that much more fun to watch (did I say "a little"? let's face it, if England dick Ozzie 3-0 in Oz, the England press will be hailing them as eternal unbeatable champions, best team to ever wear sprigs, etc)
C) even a 2-1 series win in Oz will be "an historic victory" and repeat point B, above
D) England vs Australia? No matter the result, a kiwi cannot be disappointed.

OK; it'd be great of they could both lose. Maybe have both captains red carded and a 9 all draw.

A man can dream.

Yeah. You're making us look stupid again. Even the Saffers managed to put the Irish away.

You could at least make up for this by deep-sixing the Force, so at least our part of Souper Rugby has a touch more credibility.
