as I said (4 starts, 9th game involved), he's been given chances (and playing well), but starting and playing to the starting game plan is a different matter, and I was commenting that this particular game would look to be an ideal development chance. But Borthwick decides otherwise, and that's what he's paid for. I'm just conscious of a few 9's who have been and gone at Tigers without quite fulfilling potential....and doubtless that happens elsewhere in fairness.
The only 9 come and gone at Leicester is White, and I don't see him as a big loss - he just plain wasn't good enough.
I'm starting to think there's something to the softly-softly approach. It's worked very well for Saracens over the years. Plus, the players who we dropped in at the deep end and gave lots of starts to in previous years - Olowofela, Hardwick, Worth - have not made the grade (although that might be a comment on their quality vs the likes of Steward, Martin, JVP, etc).

Thought, There were others before, but it seems your mind is set . But dropping players in at the deep end in a sh@t team is different from good young players who are playing well starting in a team going well ? Anyway, my opinion means Jack to Borthers. Personally I think it’s an opportunity missed, but there will be others.

Genuine question - who were the other young 9s? My memory is shot, so it's entirely possible I've wiped some from my mind.

Apols, I thought there were others (see edit ) but could myself be confused by the likes of Harrison moving on.

Scott Steele and Will Yarnell are the other two I can think of. Yarnell now being in the Chiefs development squad and playing for Exeter University firsts. Steele obviously has had some Scotland caps.

Different scenario though. I'm not suggesting resting the international player- who is not available in this case- but giving a start to a good young prem player in this instance as its an excellent chance for his development to start; the pecking order seems to be Youngs then Wiggy/JVP on rotation. FDF was so integral to Sale's plans you'd always start him over an unproven player; JVP has proven himself very good this season. As I said, its just an opinion, and I'm interested more cos I know his dad, and also for potential England prospects; not sure why the opinion is such a big deal tbh.
(And that's without checking whether Sale fans were wanting Quirke given a go last season)
Yeah the Tigers scrum half is nearly always changed by 55 minutes.
The game time between the three scrum halfs is pretty equally shared. Youngs gets weeks off and has been deployed from the bench at times as well as the other two. It might be why Youngs is having one of his more consistent and generally better seasons in years.
I'm quite looking forward to the midfield battle today. If Burns wants to stake a claim for regular game time then McGinty is a classy operator and an ideal opponent to make a statement against. Kelly Vs Van Rensburg is going to be good for a hefty collision or two, can Kelly match him physically, can Van Rensburg stop Kelly from showing his skills off.
The big one is at 13. Matt Scott is a good offensive centre against the our of position Rob du Preez who's looked iffy positioning wise previously. If Tigers can isolate RDP that could be an area of potential joy.
Up front may well be whichever side can both dominate physically but also keep their discipline.

Yep, my point was about starting the game, rather than game time across a season. And, to be fair, in the prem, Wigglesworth has started twice to JVP's 4

Lovely to see that the little cut on borthwick's nose finally healed.
To be fair to Porter the little in and out line he ran before breaking the first tackle made all the space. That was straight out the Murimurivalu playbook and was very nice.

Tigers much the better team (work) and Sales discipline poor.

People seem much more hesitant to go for goal these days. It's mostly a good thing but there is something to be said for generating momentum by keeping the scoreboard ticking over.
