England have sought a law clarification from World Rugby relating to rucks and loose balls in open play. Interesting. Wonder what we're hoping to gain from that? I haven't seen the ref give a penalty for "diving on a ball emerging from a ruck" for donkeys' years - probably 2003 as I remember it happening to Johnson.

There was one with Fran Louw 5-6 years ago, when Barnes shouted "balls out" and then penalised Louw for diving on it.

He might have been shouting about something else.

Recall Moore saying to Butler (I suspect in jest) Eddy you wouldn’t be able to afford my rates for planning advice

Good point; no politics here please. Even if it's mainstream enough that even PJ and Duncan are taking cheap shots, there's a board specifically for that so we don't get arguments on here.

Fair enough but I tend to think, 'Bollix to their stars, let them worry about ours!'

I fear that analysts produce negativity as they justify their existence by giving endless stats on the opposition. Let the Scottish statisticians wet themselves over Smith and Slade.

Yup, what a nothing article. Defence coach hopes to stop other team from attacking.

All the pre-match hype and “mind-games” etc. feels so tiring these days. Jones proclaiming Scotland are “red-hot favourites” about 6 times in a very brief press conference was sort of funny at least. I don’t know if he actually thinks he’s being subtle or not, but I’m keen to see if Scotland can actually deal with the expectation that’s being built up.

The pre match hype is the media trying to generate interest ahead of the game.
Those closest to the action will not take a blind bit of notice to what Jones, or Townsend come to that, have to say ahead of k/o. Frankly i dont take much notice of it either.
i think Scotland are probably very slight favourites, based on them being the more settled team and playing at home.
To claim they are red hot favourites is a bit of a stretch.

I think the Scotland squad are superior.
The England bench are trouble.

Well, I hope they're in trouble. But they could be trouble.

It's definitely a team picked for the anticipated conditions.

A full back on one wing and a centre on the other ? Yeah we're not going to run the ball much.

Slade at 12 is a back up to Smith, should he find himself under pressure a short pass to Slade (or Daly) will see a quick boot downfield.

A few have questions Daly's defensive ability at 13 - why worry, the ball isn't going to get passed that far out ?

England to grind out a wind by 3-6 points.

I'll take that. Scotland would take the opposite happily enough. Conditions will be vile, more than one try a side will be surprising and it's going to be a scrumfest imo. Smith's kicking is fine so I assume you're talking about him getting rid of the ball as Ritchie/Watson home in on him

I have two hopes: 1. We show we are really up for it right from the KO; 2. We don't concede loads of stupid penalties. The two should not contra-effect if our preparation is right.

Then, I think we will win with the 23 selected.

The start will be key - slow or indiscipline will get the Sco pack tails up and the midfield unit could end up being a round peg in a square hole.Nowell could be on earlier than expected given the bench split.Should be another close one.

Found this interesting - Sonja McLaughlan's crib sheet to prepare for presenting. Nice to see the work going into it.
