Makes interesting reading, this. Does it match up with your impressions? I think for Wasps Tom Willis has been a consistent standout, but there's probably an honourable mention for Shields and Stooke.

It's one of those lists which is really hard to judge cause there's so many players who could be on there. Cole has been massive for Leicester, as has Potter, but hard to say whether they are the most valuable. Ford is definitely a good shout, but less sure about Montoya - he's been superb, but we have had excellent backup when he's (frequently) not available. I think I'd actually define "most valuable" as a combination of biggest impact and least replaceable - so Willis is good, but Wasps get on fine without him, Shields might not be as big of a contributor, but Wasps do look lost when he's not available.

Obviously it's hard to define 'valuable', but guys like Ford and Ackermann (or Shields as you mention) really make sense as they seem to hold their teams together.

Nice to see Murley getting some recognition, as I think he's pretty much the best English wing around at the moment (in a moment where our previous starts are injured or not playing there) but the team doesn't rely so heavily on him as it does with Esterhuizen (or 8, 9, 10). Oddly I'd find myself making the case for Matt Symons, who I'd previously thought was just a big clumsy lump, but I certainly wouldn't expect him to be anywhere near a top 10 in terms of market value.

About right I'd say - Ludlow for Glos in an absolute talisman, and very durable. Between him and Ackermann for the best value at the moment, although I would have Santi Carreras right up there too.

In fairness, I don't see why there would only be 1 per team - there's likely to be a higher number of players showing value in a team that is at the top of the league than in one that's near the bottom.

Sure, yeah I guess it just seems odd because it's almost all of them. I have probably just missed the point (if there is one) of this article, but it's still good to see recognition for the honest work-horses that people have never heard of, the absolute nobodies like McGuigan, Robinson, McNally and Faletau.
