I was amazed he was called up tbh.

Well spotted! How odd. I hope it's going to be part of a greater trend of ref-swapping - everyone could use the experience of the different styles.

It’s unlikely because as far as I know, Wayne Barnes is the only English ref who can communicate in French, whereas the French Test refs speak English well. There should be obligatory language courses for the refs who officiate Tests and European club fixtures so that they can at least communicate in basic French and Italian.
Fairly sure Luke Pearce has been working on his French. Next time I meet the ref who trains at our club, I'll ask how many of them work on it, if there's any requirements etc.
Non.

Did Monsieur Raynal have a good game? Will he be invited to ref another Premiership match?

I thought he handled the game well. What parameters there are for further involvement, I have no idea. Are there wider plans for ref-swapping? Is there a club marking system as normal? Etc.

He was alright. Quins adapted to him better; certainly at the breakdown. The TMO, who was also French was very quick in his decision making, Maybe even a little quick for Raynal at times.

Just got around to watching this. Slightly strange game given it was apparently a record win. Irish blew about 15-20 points and we got away with about a dozen forward passes it seemed. I guess Smith's kicking on a normal day would have put us out of sight far sooner though. Tough day indeed for OHC.

Still really irritated we're losing Tizard. He looks really good alongside Symons' nuts & bolts style of play.
