It’s a slow burn but a definite trajectory. This is my adopted country and I’ll stick it out but fuck me, short of a time machine the regression to the original malignant event defined by slave ships in 1619 could not be clearer. It’s all the more galling given the financial impetus is being driven by self-serving beneficiaries of corporate welfare like Peter Fucking Theil are playing the public from the shadows with callous disregard for civil rights. There are so many informed , talented , authoritative and committed public servants here but they are shut out by money.

Why the fuck does that Theil cunt have a NZ passport BTW?

New Zealand was voted the best country to be in an apocalypse so he’s built a bunker there and essentially bought a passport. Yep, thats reason.

Not just a helipad but a massive sprawling lodge in an untouched piece of high country. How easy a mark was the government department that let that cunt in on the strength of spending 12 days in the country over the course of a year? The more I read about this psycho, the bigger a thundercunt he is revealed to be. Absolutely shamelessly shits on whoever he wants to get himself at the front of the trough. There should limits to influenced based on money alone.

Fuck I hate people at the moment.

Don't be silly! Those weren't people; they were F O R E I G N.

What even was his point in that speech? Don't tell me he was actually having the nerve to get up on a soapbox to criticise Putin?

American White Supremacists/Conservatives find there safe space in Hungary:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/co ... story.html

It's beyond satire. I want to know what Americans were there and where money from the US is ending up. Christian Nationalists scare are a terrorist threat. Fucking grim.

The Daily Show was in Hungary to cover this, somewhat. And the difference is huge.

Trump supporters are comedy gold with their Trump merch and dino crap.

Viktator fans aren't. They're just nationalists. There's no comedy. They're full of opposite views, they're willing to vote to kill themselves if it will save Hungarian identity, which basically means domestic violence and gays being sub-human.

The worst thing is that Budapest has spent the past decade turning into a vibrant city. The difference in quality of food, drink, coffee, service, etc., is staggering, really. And yet people in Budapest are now, more than ever, so utterly depressed. The city voted overwhelmingly against the government in the elections.

But the psychosis that grips Hungarians is very different from that which grips conservative Americans. Very different. Closer to the British brexiteers, tbh.

"The burgeoning alliance with Orban has led some U.S. commentators to warn of American conservatives allegedly embracing anti-democratic tactics."

Anti-democratic tactics? From American conservatives? Nooooo, surely not!

Same shit different day, and an utterly predictable response from limp law makers will ensure guns remain the leading cause of death in children and adolescents in the USA. Self-serving cynical heartless fucking ghouls. These people are a cancer.

You need a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun
Unless those "good guys" are armed cops - in which case, they'd rather prevent anyone from trying to stop the bad guy - and they'll draw their tasers on any parent who wants to help their kid

I suppose the inevitable answer is that the parents were deterred by a mere taser, if they had their own guns they could have shot the police in order to gain entry to the school.

When trying to deal with a lunatic in the school, more people running in won’t be the answer. The police response may or may not have been perfect but loads of angry and scared parents charging an armed gunman with other kids in the area would not have ended well.

The r obvious answer is apparently to arm guards, have huge fences and metal detectors and for teachers to covert carry weapons.

I dropped my son at primary school today and the idea of any of the staff carrying weapons just appals me. But it’s all about their constitutional rights. It’s beyond parody.

That's more than fair.
But I think the ultimate point is that the 3 armed and armoured cops who were on the scene at the time, were dissuaded from dealing with the gunman themselves because he was wearing a black t-shirt; and that if they'd been trying to deal with the gunman, maybe just maybe, the parents wouldn't have been trying to (this seems rather unlikely though - but I'm sure they didn't need all 3 for crowd control, leaving a big fat zero for dealing with the active shooter).

.

I can understand not letting parents enter the fray to add more targets for the gunman (especially since, this being Texas, they're likely to be armed and just add more bullets to the situation), but if my child was inside and the police were just standing there, I'd be leading a fucking riot.

Worth noting that it has been federally confirmed several times that the police has no obligation to protect and serve; it's just a slogan, not a job requirement: https://mises.org/power-market/police-h ... -yet-again

Just read this on LinkedIn and thought it appropriate for here. Author unknown.
How about we treat every young man who wants to buy a gun like every woman who wants to get an abortion - mandatory 48 hour waiting period, parental permission, a note from his doctor proving he understands what he is about to do, a video he has to watch about the effects of gun violence, and an ultrasound wand up the ass (just because). Let's close down all but one gun shop in every state and make him travel hundreds of miles, take time off work, and stay overnight in a strange town to get a gun. Make him walk though a gauntlet of people holding photos of loved ones who were shot to death, people who call him a murderer and beg him not to buy a gun.

It makes more sense to do this with young men and guns than with women and health care, right? I mean, no woman getting an abortion has killed a room full of people in seconds, right?

They might have thought that he was a suicide bomber. I'm speculating but possible, otherwise can't think why that would be relevant.
