The track cycling team have been simply brilliant. Trott and Kenny last night were in a class of their own.

Pretty much that their sole main goal is the Olympics. That is what dictates funding so that is where they aim to peak. They still do well at Worlds etc but their real goal is always the Olympics. Kenny for example has twice as many Olympic golds as world golds.

I love how "normal" Trott and Kenny are. They are right up there with our greatest Olympians but seem so "normal". It is one of the things I like about the Olympics a lot of the competitors seem "normal" but have exceptional talent (and accompanying drive etc) in their field.

Interestingly in the papers today, some of the other nations are suggesting there is something amiss because Britain does well at the Olympics but isn't consistent elsewhere. Smells like sour grapes.

The others are taking a far too simplistic view IMO. James was world champ then got injured, Wiggins/Doull/Burke/Clancy for a variety of reasons didn't ride in competition at full strength for a good while, GB still won the UCI world cup twice between Olympics, all bar 3 of team GBs cyclists had won at least one silver in the world champs between Olympics. And most importantly their funding is immense - £30million, which allows the best facilities, best coaches and best R+D. But for that funding they are measured on 1 main KPI - Olympic performance.

Also many other countries peaked at the worlds and apparently their times are down for the Olympics.

Looking forwards to the Triathlons although I wish they'd bring in the mixed relay like they had in the Commonwealth Games.

So, Lochte. What do you think happened? Was he really robbed at gun point or, as some are suggesting, went out on the piss, got his leg over and realised he would be bollocked so made up a cover story??

The Fail has published cctv footage of Lochte and his buddies returning to the village after the alleged incident and I think it adds a bit of weight to the cover story angle.

I predict the team winners will be Team GB. Eddie Jones front runner for coach of the year as a sop - any other year and England Rugby would get them team award (assuming a decent AI run)

For the individuals, it's probably Murray's to lose, I'd vote for Trott as of now, but we've plenty of Olympics, Paralympics and things like AIs to come.
I can see Rose getting a lot of votes as a big F*** You from the golf fans annoyed at the rest of us bitching that it shouldn't be in the Olympics; random footballer #4 could do the same - they do love to crash other people's parties (not that Jenson is still biter or anything).

Of course, if someone cals Invertwat a twat on camera, they'll be instant favourites.

Murray - Been to all 3 grand slam finals this year, won Wimbledon and the Olympics.
Froome - Might win the Vuelta to go with the TdF.
Mo - If he wins the 5k.

Id suggest either Leicester or Wales football teams ahead of England rugby, just because their success was so unexpected. England have been transformed under Jones, no arguments about that, yet as a top class team they expect to win the 6N. The whitewash in Aus was a superb result, so you can make a strong case. But I think one of the football teams will probably get the award out due to the unexpected nature of their results.

I agree, Chris Hoy is a top man, no airs and graces to him, it was quite funny when Cav asked for his autograph the other day, SCH looked quite embarassed. He also likes rugby which obviously makes him a superior being

Awkward moment the other night before the sprint final when CB was getting overexcited and briefly laid her hands on the great man ( just in affection/ familiarity )
