Pretty much that their sole main goal is the Olympics. That is what dictates funding so that is where they aim to peak. They still do well at Worlds etc but their real goal is always the Olympics. Kenny for example has twice as many Olympic golds as world golds.
They all keep their bodies really quiet even when they're flat out. Only the Dutch look as technically proficient.

That is my conclusion based upon my new found compendious knowledge of the sport.
5 minutes into the team dressage I was throwing empties at the telly and wondering about our selection process throughout this Olympic cycle. Shocking behaviour.

Really...?. I have to say, without any dint of irony, if you take away the hot, sweaty, tightly formed young ladies bodies, beach volleyball is a very dull spectator sport.
They should have 3 in a team then there'd be better rallies.

Must say SCH has been a superb addition to the beeb presenting team..great insight & true passion for the event, delivered with clarity & calmness.
With Balding & Boardman it's been a great job.
( the fact that every member of the team came away with some sort of medal has helped, obviously!)
Yup,...agreed. Also really enjoyed Joanna Rowsell-Shand last night and Paula Radcliffe is always quality. Neither of them are to be messed with.

The commentators and their expert has been a very interesting little competition in itself.
Personally I feel Jameson and Moorhouse have been the best, they were very funny while they padded during the 1.5 hrs of both of the open water swims (something neither of them know much about).
The rowing guys were all good, I'm trying to find footage of Sir Steve falling out with Invertwat, that has been a long time coming. The expert diving guy I am finding very annoying.

But like a colossus,.....Michael Johnson stands above them all. What a Guy.
I hope the Beeb are paying him a fortune....he deserves it.

Yes, really.

On pundits etc, agreed, they've generally been great, I'd throw in a mention for the gymnastics coverage as well, genuinely knowledgeable, and do a good job of explaining scoring etc.

That eternally cheerful Yorkshire lad does the commentary....?. Yeah, he's pretty good.
He's another former Blue Peter presenter..?.

Country file as well. Every single one of that team is an ex-gymnast and I think 1 is an ex-coach. Even the lead media guy was a national juniors' champ IIRC

I thought the road race coverage was dire. There was often long silences (which isn't always a bad thing on a 200k ride...but these silences were too long), inane information being passed on, incorrect information and cyclists names and there just didn't seem to be much of a spark in the commentary.

Been pleased with most other commentaries though. I'm still not a fan on Balding though and I'm just amazed that Inverdale is so highly regarded in the Beeb. He seems universally hated in the real world. He clearly loves sport and is enthusiastic about it but he's just such a dickhead.

Getting a bit bored of the 'how does it feel?' questions though but maybe that's just a sign of Team GB's success.

It can't be just me who thinks it's not a coincidence that two key players have been invalided off by the black sticks.

So this hockey match is decided on goals per capita, right?

All of this. I think coverage has mostly been of a high standard, both quality and quantity.
Swimming, athletics and cycling stand out.

As an aside, I can't stand Matt Baker. I'm looking forward to his Tiger Woods-esque fall from grace.

This is almost as good as looking at the medal table. A good friend of my wife is currently working in Oz. She sent us a photo of the back page of an Oz newspaper claiming that the British are still crap at sport and that this Olymlics is a blip.

Love it.

They must be smarting at the moment.

England (and Wales) have the Ashes.

England won a series in Oz.

England whitewashed Oz in Oz.

Team GB are in rude health.

Still, they're better at league than us.....

...for now!

I like Matt,.....he has that amateur knowledge which is sympathetic.
I'm amazed you have a problem with him.
