Not really, few other places are this tolerant.
Don't believe me, feel free to have a look for yourself.

Re: Anyone know any decent messageboards?
I've already written about this. Two problems with English-language rugby forums is they tend to be dominated by Brits, Kiwis and Saffas with generally a right wing slant on their political views, and the other is the moderators themselves, who, until I came across this forum with its transparent disciplinary procedures, I'd found to be invariably unethical and somewhat juvenile. The worst were Planet Rugby's, who in the old days actually denied they were staff and would engage in some of the worst abuse on the forum. Only many years later did they finally fess up to being mods. This was not only unethical but really quite cowardly on their part, as they frequently teamed up on posters like myself to enforce their views, political, rugby-related and otherwise. What geniuses! They also managed to dominate both the Scrum.com forum, as well as the IRB forum during its brief existence - totally wrecking it to that it had to be closed down. NZ's Silver Fern is staffed by juvenile morons who think they're geniuses as well. They not only fill up their own forum with abuse, they openly ridicule anyone who sends in a complaint - because once again it's not actually clear who the moderators are; only that they dominate their own forum. & I've found much the same sort of thing on my tour of the rugby message board world. I used World Rugby magazine's for a while, till it got closed down presumably for lack of members, then finally settled on the tier 2 and 3 rugby forum, which I used for more than a year, despite some nonsense from a few pro-Israel/Iraq war American rednecks, along with a Zimbabwean who was extremely touchy about anyone mentioning the apartheid era (wonder why). Anyway, I had some great discussions with like-minded folk from Brazil & Georgia & elsewhere, and thought I'd found my niche. Then I got into a long-running debate with some other posters about the merits of South Africa's 2023 RWC bid, and out of the blue I was banned - permanently! They just said there had been too many complaints about me - in spite of the fact I never once abused or insulted anyone on that forum (yet several ad insulted and abused me). The mod just took took the cowards way out and yielded to the redneck brigade, then followed up with a lot of slander when a number of members questioned my banning. I'd almost given up by the time I stumbled across this one, but I think it's safe to say the moderating here is of a vastly more ethical and mature quality.

If they're good enough to play at World Cups, why not in between?

Now I've been sent some of your posting history from these other sites which you claim neutered you unfairly I'd say there's no way you could believe your account above had anything but a tangential relationship with reality, then again the posting history from some of those other sites is truly barking.rowan wrote:I've already written about this. Re: Anyone know any decent messageboards?
Just go take a look at the tier 2 and 3 forum for yourself. All my old posts are still there. Nothing's been removed. As for Planet Rugby, I was a bit more feisty over there, but it was a long time ago and that was the nature of the joint. But I'm also sure they shipped plenty of propaganda your way too. Anyway, I'm just answering the guy's query.

Just to be clear and fair to all, posting history, alleged or actual on other message boards/forums should have no bearing on posting on RR. It just isn't relevant here. It never has been, I can't see a scenario where it ever does.

Having observed the disciplinary procedures in action, I'm confident I'll be judged on my merits here.BBD wrote:Just to be clear and fair to all, posting history, alleged or actual on other message boards/forums should have no bearing on posting on RR. Anyone know any decent messageboards?
Most other rugby boards seem to be populated by ignoramuses who have never played the game, don't know the laws, and are basically there to be fanboys for their chosen team.
Whilst this is not a golden era for Rugby Rebels, the rugby discussions are at least generally a cut above the norm.
I've viewed the ructions on the Politics board with some dismay. I've stuck my oar in on occasion but mostly tried to stay out of it. Basically, I'm here for the rugby.
The problem with polarised arguments (let's be honest, the description "debate" would be inaccurate) of the type we have seen, especially when the man is being played instead of the ball, is that it infects other boards meaning that good-natured disagreement (eg in the Crooked Feed) is no longer possible.
I would hope that everyone can make a bit of an effort (me included) to approach things with the right attitude and raise the general standard.
As far as I know, we still have elections for mods. I have no real beef with those who take the thankless job on (I have been asked and declined so I have no high horse in this race). I got my one infringement (many years ago now - I can't recall if it was a ban or what - what did a yellow card entail?) in response to a deliberately abusive (albeit very well written and highly entertaining) post so it was deserved. My main problem is that the post is now lost in the ether so I cannot relive the moment.
What I'm trying to say is, can't we all just get a long? Think of the children etc. And if someone gets your back up, just harden the fuck up and laugh it off. It's only the Internet, man.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

We don't have an elected mod for the politics forum.Lizard wrote:Most other rugby boards seem to be populated by ignoramuses who have never played the game, don't know the laws, and are basically there to be fanboys for their chosen team.

Hammy decided to appoint mods this time around. It's his board, not a public service.Zhivago wrote:We don't have an elected mod for the politics forum.Lizard wrote:Most other rugby boards seem to be populated by ignoramuses who have never played the game, don't know the laws, and are basically there to be fanboys for their chosen team.

I'm sure he had his reasons, I guess because he knew he'd be quite absent and needed people he could trust.Sandydragon wrote:Hammy decided to appoint mods this time around. My opinion is that electing mods would go a long way to fixing the issues.
This forum was the best, it still can be if the leadership team take the right decisions.
