Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Like I said before, a spat between IBA and IOC has dragged everyone into the gutter.
Of course, both boxers could've appealed to CAS and screwed the IBA completely, but chose not to. Got to wonder why. There are more questions in this than just the corruption of the IBA.

It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Battleboats really IS cool.
If you were asked to develop a new sport, that's like rugby, but without a ball, and with a risk of drowning, it would look like that.

Such as why they didn't appeal the IBA ban to CAS and definitively put the whole thing to bed as well as expose the IBA as the charlatans they apparently are.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:10 pmSuch as?Donny osmond wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 4:04 pm There are more questions in this than just the corruption of the IBA.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Are they obliged to when they already know IBA are removed from relevance?
I guess it's a question, but I do t think it's a fair one.

Looks like Shelly-Ann fell foul of a rule that's 24 hours old, about how to arrive at the stadium, and that's why she wasn't allowed to compete.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Why would they want to go through "exposing the IBA" and go to a court of "Please prove to these old white men that you are woman enough for their standards" and risk engaging the Streisand effect, when they could just celebrate the IBA not being in charge anymore and hope that it was all put behind them? If the media hadn't decided that this all was mainstream front-page news for some reason, practically no-one would've known who they even were. I don't blame them in the slightest for not actively inviting this culture war bullshit down upon themselves in the vain hope that the CAS (who don't exactly have a great record themselves on dealing with "What is a woman?" questions when the answer isn't "White") would definitively put this to bed.Donny osmond wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 7:51 pmSuch as why they didn't appeal the IBA ban to CAS and definitively put the whole thing to bed as well as expose the IBA as the charlatans they apparently are.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:10 pmSuch as?Donny osmond wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 4:04 pm There are more questions in this than just the corruption of the IBA.

Okay, last time I got into a conversation about "this culture war bullshit" (aka standing up for women), I got banned (immediately overturned) and various other unpleasant things happened which ended up with UKHamlet saying that this topic shouldn't be discussed on the boards.
I'm just going to enjoy the rest of the Olympics, thanks lads.

Okay, I'm going to edit this down really heavily, as you're wanting out of the conversation. But* I do have to ask, how "standing up for women" requires women to sacrifice themselves for no apparent benefit**?
* And we all know, anything anyone says before the word "but" can be safely ignored.
** Other than to appease men at some unspecified point in a future that will probably never exist - and probably would never have existed if an Italian boxer hadn't decided that she didn't like it.
Given that you want out of the conversation, I will understand if you choose not to answer, but I need to get my question out there regardless

Must have been dreaming of hockey last night.
Woke up in a slight panic that my new stick wouldn't arrive in time for my next match.
I have played hockey for 25 years now!

CAS and IBA aren't credible organisations, this woman has done absolutely nothing wrong.Donny osmond wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 7:51 pmSuch as why they didn't appeal the IBA ban to CAS and definitively put the whole thing to bed as well as expose the IBA as the charlatans they apparently are.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:10 pmSuch as?Donny osmond wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 4:04 pm There are more questions in this than just the corruption of the IBA.
Respect that we all enjoy the Olympics but it can be discussed rationally some other time

Thanks WT, I'm happy to discuss this over DMs if you really want to, you strike me as someone it'd be quite easy to have a sensible conversation with, but not via the public boards.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 8:34 am Okay, I'm going to edit this down really heavily, as you're wanting out of the conversation. Having said 'lets just enjoy the rest of the games' I'm actually going to miss it all today as I'm driving the eldest to her brass band comp, but I'll be silently hoping for UK glory, (and Irish, I suppose) and that Alcaraz humps Djokovic
Cheers everyone

Appreciated, but I'm a firm believer that if something can't be said publicly, it shouldn't be said.Donny osmond wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 9:59 am Thanks WT, I'm happy to discuss this over DMs if you really want to, you strike me as someone it'd be quite easy to have a sensible conversation with, but not via the public boards.
Other opinions are available.
However, I think the issue is emotive enough, and broad enough that it probably needs a thread of it's own, that should take place away from the heightened emotions of live sport.
And so say all of us.

Completely agree about saying things in public, but otoh I don't want to walk that path again and have been warned off talking about this subject, so I'm afraid that's not going to happen, sorry.Which Tyler wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 10:38 amAppreciated, but I'm a firm believer that if something can't be said publicly, it shouldn't be said.Donny osmond wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 9:59 am Thanks WT, I'm happy to discuss this over DMs if you really want to, you strike me as someone it'd be quite easy to have a sensible conversation with, but not via the public boards.
