19:25 BST. Silver beckons.
It was so much easier to blame Them. It was bleakly depressing to think They were Us. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I was disappointed to note that.

We did well in the slalom events so it does seem a bit odd we havent put anyone in to the sprints as there are more races now than before.

different sort of events though, aren't the sprints on a lake?
I have genuinely never seen these sports before. Have they always been there?
yup, used to be canadian style on one knee canoeing iirc....hungarians used to be good at it back in the day

In the few races I watched the Hungarians seem to still be pretty good. And the one knee canoeing was still being raced, and it looks like a massive ball ache trying to power a canoe that way.

Me too, but I just cant see her finishing 8 seconds or more ahead of the current leader over 800m.

Watching a Madison race on the bike track is such a frustrating experience, always. UK did well to get silver in the end, I thought they'd fucked it with about 29 laps to go

Yes, 3rd. & 4th. in total medal count, but in a mix of 7 nations vying for 4th. on Gold tally ( GB, Fra with similar low G./ total ratios ), our position last time behind hosts Jap., when we had a more even split, 22/20/22.
wtf happened on the water ? usually a banker for spoils.

I think our swim team didn't quite achieve their pre games targets, although as mentioned they weren't far away in actual distance terms in the races.
Rowers did well, something like 38/46 athletes coming home with a medal of some sort and only 1 race (iirc) where they just missed out on a gold.
Cyclists? Don't know what the targets were but there wasn't a gold rush.
Athletics? Did I read the UK only had 1 field athlete? Seems like an area we could improve.

Fair play to France, not a single track and field medal

Ist country in a long time not to run a home doping program or at least have some very dubious athletes/doctors involved

Cyclists aren’t done yet but done well in a rebuild. Swimmers missed by 3. Lots of silvers by narrow margins. Some of the minor sports did well, but we will be a bit disappointed in no golds in canoeing, individual equestrian and some favourites coming nowhere. Boxing and sailing not up to snuff really compared to other years, ditto taekwondo so far.
Nearly games but respectable on the whole, couple more cycling golds and it will be a good un imo with emerging nations winning stuff. Netherlands and Oz vg too

and LA will be another level!
HPC actually at the Games will surely give an edge - with a 6-year lead in too. ( US )
Not sure if this is replicated by European teams, Oz etc.

The target was between 50 and 70 medals so that been achieved, though some sports have clearly underachieved (sailing) while others have excelled (rowing). Currently its 57 and thats pretty good. Its the lowish number of golds that is the slight disappointment after 22 in 2021, 27 in 2016, 29 in 2012 and 19 in 2008.

Yes -will be reflected I think in the silver/bronze medal count. Plus the no shows as above and we probably would have hoped for some equestrian individual gold.

I think they will be disappointed though as above it’s not done yet. Could be a couple more golds in cycling and modern pentathlon.

good diving bronze though everyone bar one was messing up.

Taekwondo half disappoints again- Bianca Cook will be spitting blood over her GB rival losing so easily.
