I'll be honest, I had thought Sam Maunder was one of the players who'd been released end of last season.

I thought Haydon-Wood was developing into a decent flyhalf at Newcastle, the move to Wasps was an awful decision on his part and his agent wants shooting for setting that one up. Even without the bankruptcy Wasps had three more experienced 10 options in the squad. I still think given a run of games he'd displace Baxter's love child at 10 and Chiefs would do better.

Chiefs beat L Scottish 45 v 19. Lilley came on as a blood replacement and promptly scored. Chiefs pack just too control and Scottish wilted.

Many Tuilagi is injured (quelle surprise!) and will be absent for 6-8 weeks. He injured his hand in Bayonne’s friendly match against Biarritz and will miss the opening of the Top14 season on September the 7th.

Côme Joussain is a new name on me - a google says he's a French lock we've picked up from Nottingham. All the pages I can find about him make sure to mention that he's JIFF-qualified (presumably penned by his agent), which suggests if he's any kind of success he'll be heading straight back to France, but nice to see we're still looking at talent from the Championship.

Any news on Anthony Watson's fitness?

I'm pretty sure we've borrowed Joussain before. He's on a dual registration with us and Notts. Has been training with Tigers during pre season but will probably be back with Notts shortly to play Championship games.

Sam Williams is an interesting one. He's been playing BUCS for Notts Trent then last summer got dual registration with Notts. Could be interesting if he's a bit of a later developer. Looks stocky in the pictures, hopefully an 8 though given the reports from the Tigers open training session were that Hatherall and Cracknell were packing down at 8 it would well be he's openside cover for Ilione.

EP, with Joe Woodward do you think he'll remain a specialist 12 or do you think he'll branch out and play a bit of 10 or 13 as well?

I think he’ll stay 12. He can play 10 at a stretch and might branch to 13 occasionally.

If he can slot into 10 as well that could be advantageous given the lack of flyhalf options in the squad. He looks a classy player, hopefully he gets more game time this season.

Will watch his progress this season with interest - I was impressed quite a few times when I saw him at age grade. Fingers crossed he makes the step up.

Is it just me or does "Guy Rogers" sound like the type of name you put on the team sheet for a ringer. Next week they'll have Toby Lerone down as well.
